Today I came home and noticed that my box turtles food was covered in ants. I left out some cantaloupe and came home to find it covered in ants and swarming with flys. Anyway to keep them away?

Water, put the food dish on a larger shallow dish and put water on the larger dish so the turtles have to walk in the water to get to their food. It's not always 100% effective but will slow the bugs down getting to the torts food far awhile. Can't help with flies.

The best thing to do in my opinion is to not leave out sweet food items..it is best to offer sweets when you are there so you can clear away the uneaten items..ants can and do swarm on a tortoise very quickly and it is difficult for the torts to clear free of them quickly..especially if you have young torts...here in the desert ants willeven swarm greens on really hot days..
