It is so different than my experience in 2003. They are thriving!

I just hate the way they HAVE to sit on their food. Drives me crazy!

Good to see him eating for you. Any hopes for offspring in the near future?

How many Erosa do you have?
Just 1.1 , I am looking for more kinixys of any species these days.
Keep me posted on those homeana ova, 2 of mine appear viable, and she is going to nest again soon.

:D looks like we are both looking for more hingebacks.:D I'd like to find more Erosa and Spekii, especially. I would like to have sizable groups of all of them, so I have an unlimited gene pool to choose from. Getting closer with the Bells and Homes, but still will add more as I can.

Same here with the diversity. Belliana and spekii, are housed elsewhere these days. After my kinixys disaster in 2003-4, only homeana, and now erosa are here.
I need a bigger place before I can easily add new species.
I do have a 5year plan with that, enough time to quarentine imported kinixys before I would want them.
I remember seeing K.natalensis at NERD, circa 1998-9. $150 a pair:(

Yeppers, if only we could go back a few years armed with our current knowledge. I am lucky, I have lots of room for expansion (two +100 yr old homes in bad shape, but still usable certainly they aren't fancy:cool:) both with large lots. My problem lies more in finding the tortoises. I do a year min. quarantine on new ones. I also am giving them several years to settle down, before I even start to think eggs (of course it seems a couple have other ideas).:D It's a long term work in progress here.

1996-7? Riverview, FL.. Robert's Serpents.. K. erosa - $15 each.. he had 50 if he had 3. ALL Adults!

All I can remember is those screamin' YELLOW-ORANGE heads.. I had to watch where I stepped among them.. there were so many -

I scream everytime I think about it! I had 200 bucks in my pocket and no other tortoises and an empty backyard and bedroom to use however.

I dont want to sound dense, but the K.Natalensis, is that a natal hingeback tortoise? From the image it doesn't look hinged, but then again it is nice and moist.

***Never mind, google answered my question... Are hingebacks rare? I remember growing up in South Africa, I only saw 1 and it was my neighbors. It was a K.Transvaalens, or maybe a cape hingeback I believe, alot has changed since then though, I was only 9 or 10 years old at that time.
