Hi Everyone,

My name is Gabriela and I am new to the tortoise forum. I will be hopefully getting tortoise within the next week or two. After some debate I have decided to purchase on from KSL Classifieds, which is essentially a Utah classifieds site, similar to Craigslist. I am wanting to purchase a Russian Tortoise and am considering purchasing this one. However based on my research I've been doing, I am wondering if this is actually a RT or a Sulcata? The ridges on the shell look kind of like a Sulcata. I wouldn't have the room for a Sulcata which I know can grow to a large size, therefore I don't want to make a mistake agreeing to purchasing this particular one.Can you please help:shy: in identifying this tortoise. Thank you!

:( Yep, sorry you need to keep looking, that is not a Russian. Kudos to you, that you have learned to tell the difference by researching first!

That poor sulcata is living in an aquarium that's way too small for him. There's just no telling what may be wrong health-wise with the tortoise. Wait for your Russian to come up.

No, judging by the large leg scales, I'm sure its a sulcata.

Thank you everyone. I thought it might be a sulcata. I am not sure if the seller appreciated me letting him know, but I did tell him so.:shy:

Also, here in Utah they are adopting out DT but I just don't have the space for a larger tortoise.

Purchase a russian from tortoisesupply.com! Many member here would agree that is a great place to get a first tortoise :) also ATC is very reputable as well.

Welcome to the forum, Gabriela! :)

Yes, that is a Sulcata tortoise in what looks to be a very small enclosure. :(

However, I am so glad that you are taking the time to learn and ask questions!
