She just looks so formidable..like she knows she"s a queen & ruler.
She’s doing well, up a kg since June, she’ll surpass Darwin by next month I bet.
I’m upgrading Aretha’s enclosure as she’s grown a lot, and increasingly faster, in this past year.
I’ll be partitioning off about half of our garage, building an enclosure from pvc trim-board, installing lights and plants above the enclosure (for shade and food), and heating the newly partitioned “room”.
I gave Aretha a nice long soak this morning, weighed her, and gave her the wellness exam I try to do with all of my torts every month or so... she seems in great health to me.
She keeps putting on weight at a good pace.
I think the new growth lines on her carapace look good.
I love the spikes on her thighs and can attest to how muscular her legs are....
Her eyes are clear and alert, her nose is free of goo and respiratory rattling, she's active and hungry and I love watching her explore.
I'm excited to get her into her new enclosure, which I'm currently working on, it'll more than double her available space.

300g in a month... and I'd been worried that she hasn't been cleaning her plate recently, but then I saw her hunting down worms and pillbugs in her enclosure, which must be how she's been supplementing her diet.

She is going to be a big girl. How big do they usually get? Love her coloring.

In captivity, they can grow to over 100 pounds....

OMG she is going to be huge!!!
Breakfast today was a big handful of mixed greens, Mazuri, butternut squash, and Opuntia cactus... she cleaned her plate and then polished off the greens.
She gets animal protein 2-3 times a week, just not today.

By animal protein I mean meat, or meat products
I feed my omnivorous torts a mix of animal based protein including:
Mazuri croc diet
Raw dog food (a product made of meat, b organs and bones)
Shrimp, with shell
Salmon, with skin
Cow or chicken liver
