Hello Everyone!

I would like to ask, does anyone give mushrooms to turtles?
I tried it, and my aldabra turtle really liked it.
What do you think, if I give it to the turtle 1-2 times a week next to the plants, will it be good for it?
I think it will eat mushrooms in nature if it finds them.

My Herman loves white mushrooms

I have found that my Aldabra tortoise also really likes it. If I give it mixed mushrooms with plants, it always eats the mushrooms first.

My red-footed tortoises love all mushrooms, but especially shiitakis. Very nutritious and well accepted for this forest and edge species, but perhaps should be a more occasional treat for grassland grazing species.

I feed my red foot three times a week and supplement with some lettuce in between I do give her mushrooms. Mushrooms are a source of protein and are good for redfoot tortoises.

That is what the out-dated old info says is ok, but it really isn't the good way to keep tortoises! They should be allowed to eat as much as they want to every day. I feed a "salad" the size of her shell every day...70-80% greens and plants, the rest veggies and fruit (an occasional mushroom falls into this percentage) with a bit of protein a couple times per week.
