I like to collect and work on old and unusual cars and motorcycles.
Even though I'm retired now, my back issues have kept me from doing much of it and one car in particular has very old gasoline in it that must be disposed of. In fact, the entire fuel system has to be replaced and or cleaned. But my issue is with the 7 or so gallons of stale, old fuel.
I'm wondering how to get rid of it. (Legally)
I usually deal with just 1 or 2 gallons and I recycle it with my used oil.

I know it's probably against the law, but when it's time to buy new lawn mower gas and there's still some old gas in the can, I find ant hills and pour the old gas on the ants.

I’m wondering if a garage/car repair shop might be able to help out. Or, give your local county “hazard waste disposal” office a call. Has to be some place where one gets rid of oil, paint cans, etc like you have.

For example, in our county, we have this:

Prince George’s County opened the Household Hazardous Waste Acceptance Site in the spring of 2000. The site, which is located at the Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill, is open and free of charge to County citizens and residents who need to dispose of harmful household waste.

Improper disposal of these materials is harmful to the environment:
Acid Car Batteries Fluorescent Light Bulbs Oil-Based Paints
Automotive Fluids and Fuels Gas Grill Propane Tanks Photographic Chemicals
Cleaning Agents Helium Balloon Tanks Poisons
Cooking Oil Household Batteries Smoke Detectors
Driveway Sealers Insecticides, Herbicides, and Fertilizers Solvents, Varnishes, and Stains
Fire Extinguishers Mercury and Other Hazardous Materials Swimming Pool Che

Your local auto parts store should be able to assist with taking in any hazardous waste.

@Yvonne G , what you do is not recommended on sooo many levels. For one it’s dangerous to your health and the health of your animals. I’ll leave it at that.

Boiling water/soapy water was what I was taught to use to get rid of ant hills.

This method has the advantage of ridding the air of plague-carrying skeeters!

Wait a minute... I don't recall plague being a mosquito borne disease!

Where do you recycle your old fuel? Check with whoever takes it -- they may take the old fuel off your hands anyway.

Otherwise, someone at the county level knows what to do with it... You just have to find them. (They're easier to find in some counties than others, but Broward should have a good handle on that.)

I'm sure there are plenty of legal options to get rid of it in Broward... The catch is going to be finding an option (or the right timing) to get rid of it without it costing anything.

I have to agree with the health and hazmat concerns... but I completely understand the sentiment of any tortoise keeper with a vendetta against fire ants!
