Hey Everyone,
On Friday I fed My Sulcatas some Mazuri Tortoise Chow. I dont usually feed them mazuri, But I do from time to time.. ( I keep a bag on hand for when I run out of Orchard grass and Timothy Hay).. So they have had it before.
Yesterday afternoon I noticed that there were three separate piles of spit up food in the pen. Im assuming it was spit up...Maybe pooped out?? But it was undigested.. I had given them a bit of watermelon as well, and that too was in the mix. Has anyone ever had this happen?? It came from The larger tort, because of the amount. He is about 10lbs. Ive never seen a tort eat like this one..He comes charging for food when I open the pen.. The smaller 2 lb tort ate the same thing, and seems to be fine. The larger one is a little lethargic since I found this. Do you think maybe he ate to much to fast??
Any thought would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks
Jeff

Hello,
It says Oct 2008 on the bag. Ive only had it a week. I bought it at a local feed store. I keep it in a 5 gallon sealed storage container.

It sounds like it has gone off Jeff. If you want to keep it for any length of time you need to keep it frozen until you use it.

You should be able to tell by the smell. It actually does smell rancid when it goes "off."

I buy two 25lb bags at a time and keep the bags in my pantry on the floor. It is quite a while (like maybe a year) before I buy another bag. And the last little bit in the last bag is still ok. But who knows how long your store had the bag on the shelf.

I would take the bag back to the store you bought it from and give them a piece of my mind....tell them how sick it could make your babies !

Just a thought, would sick food make them vomit? Or should I ask does a tort vomit for anything else?(Maybe I am thinking of like a parrot, who whenever he sees me, or when I pick him up gets ready and assumes the position, but that's love I guess)
