Hi all! I just have some concerns with my tortoise’s growth. I know the lighter colored rings are growth, but my concern is that it has been this lighter color as seen in the pictures for nearly two years now. Is this something to be concerned about? I was doing calcium supplements once a week with his food but have recently upped it to 2-3 times a week.
He gets a mix of greens rotated out every few weeks. Things like escarole, endive, dandelion leaves, collards, spring mixes, arugula, etc and Mazuri once a week. He has UVA/UVB bulbs (reptisun T5HO 10.0) as well as a basking spot of about 98-100°F. I think I was keeping him too dry before, humidity around 30% but I’ve recently changed substrates to include fir bark and am keeping him around 50% now.
Will this growth just darken over time or is some adjustment needed in care?IMG_5291.jpeg

It will probably darken over time, or it could just genuinely be his shell colour, I certainly wouldn’t worry, he looks a lovely happy tortoise😊

I think the 50% humidity range is a good shout, temps and diet sound great🥰

Only thing I’m noticing(and granted it could just be the photo, another angle would be good!) is his beak looks like it might need a little trim🐢💚

Thanks! I was definitely wondering about his beak. Couldn’t decide if it was getting bad or not. IMG_5295.jpegIMG_5294.jpeg

A cuttlebone in his enclosure will help him get calcium and it will gently keep his beak more in trim, too! 😉 He’s a very handsome fella!
