Hi everyone!

Just wanted to update you on how my lovely little baby tort is doing. He now stays in three different substrates: tortoise sand specifically for Russian torts, orchid bark for the top layer, and some coco coir for the bedding in his log and cave. I think the humidity has really helped with his shell growth, and he seems so much happier too. Thank you so much!

Sand should never be used, it causes impaction.

Hi Wellington, thanks so much for that feedback! Is that the case for all the substrates like that designed for Russian tortoises? He’s a proper digger, and orchid bark doesn’t seem enough to keep him happy. It’s great so see him so much cheerier though. ☺️

Coconut coir and orchid bark are the best to use. Coir doesn't cause impaction and orchard bark usually isn't eaten.
