Is baby #2 sold, or are ya keeping it, or what? Asked somebody who is always looking for another split scute tortoise... :D

Oh shucks! The first two are spoken for. There are two more in the exact orientation in the incubator though, so there's still hope for more split scutes.

Well, so far there are three of them. The first two are spoken for, and since the 3rd doesn't have split scutes, I THINK he's available...Jacqui never told me whether she wants it or not.

There is a species of whiptail lizards that are ALL females, during mating seasons some of the females change their chromosomes to XY and produce offspring like that, im not sure if a tortoise could do it, but recently the komodo dragons can do that now..

i wonder if its like a "must save the species" thing inside their genes that would make them do that, but either way congrats! and thats so exciting!! :D

Very cool IRTenDuckie.
Did we not get a pic of tort #3. Leopards without split scutes are worth posting too:p

Okay wow! So they can mate years before hand and there eggs be fertile? How is this possible? Is It with all species of tortoises? If there are anymore babies, I would be I interested. My Genny just past away :-( and I have been keeping my eyes open ;-) oh another question. Split scutes are more desirable? So interesting!

So far I've seen three of them eating. But #4 is still pretty fresh.

They sure have some interesting markings. Pretty little torts.

I agree, especially the one furthest to the left is really nicely marked.... too bad they don't stay looking like this.

Yes for some reaso leopards seem to lose their markings as adult more than any other tortoise. The adults look almost like a totally different species.
