Just trying to explain to my husband (AGAIN) that I don't want the "big lights" (bright ceiling ones) on in the evenings because it disturbs the tortoise's sleep at night, only to get the reply "I'm sure you smoke crack some days."
They just don't get it do they lol..........

But then you have a hubby , who when asked by a friend of his, "Where are you going to move that thing,( pointing to my double decker tort table in our dining room) when you get the hardwood flooring put in, and my hubby says 'Are you kidding? Like that's going anywhere!!!
So Claire, the moral is, give it time!!! They finally do get it!!

It's when you've inherited the tort through marriage and the former primary carer (then aged 7, now nearing 50) returns from overseas work and moans about electricity bill/vague smell of tort poo/weeds in garden/vet bill * (*delete as applicable) that you really reach the desire to murder :D

LOL...ok so, you know that is funny right????? Take the light bulbs all out except for a couple of them....so there is some light but not bright....or you could maybe rig up a night curtain so the light does not shine on him?????? :D Kinda like folks do for birds, you know?

that you really reach the desire to murder

LOL....shhhhhhh:rolleyes:

I have roommates that act similarly and it did seem a bit unfair to them. To solve the problem, I cut out sections of leftover pond liner and fit it over the top at night. Keeps a lot of the light out while allowing my roommates to rightfully use them after dark.

I really think they DO come around. My husband told me tonight..."It's going down to 59 out there, maybe you should take Pio in." Of course I already did, but wow! I always thought he just put up with my animals.

He's pretty good really :) just has the odd moment where he thinks im joking when im deadly serious. he built Phillips table for me, rushed about a few weeks back when I was on a 14 hr shift at work and the UVB bulb had blown at home, takes him in the garden on my long work days :) he has a similar marine fish obsession (so bad that we actually just bought our first house based upon the new build 7ft tank lol) he's on ultimate reef forum more than I'm on here, so I'm not quite AS bad with Phillip ;) I bought up the sulcata issue a few days back, showed him a pic of "Walking Rock" to which his reply was f'in hell, look at the size of that, that would TRASH the garden. There go my marigolds. And you really want one eventually??? "umm, well yes..." get one then. *shock* really? Lol

But then on the flip side I got a text yesterday that simply said "Phillips doing my head in" haha

You know! Lol he's planning on knocking a giant hole thru my wall to the garage so he can put a tank in it, a SUPPORTING wall I might add, taking the obsession to a new level which means the left side of my house -possibly- could fall down.and I'm the one smoking crack apparently :D

My other half is very good about my torts. She is always on the lookout for a tort digging a nest like she was today. She has dug eggs out of the ground and put them in the incubator. She is always bringing my radiated in and out of the house on her days off if sunny outside. I told her about a week ago that I got another Radiated and she said she knew, She just wanted to hear it come out of my mouth. Im going to pick up the new female Radiated from the airport Thursday night. Cant friggin wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it's much easier to get a woman-other half to get onboard the tort passion train than it is to get a woman to get her man into the same zone... Dare I say women have bigger hearts? ;P lol. And congrats on the new radiated!! It's so beautiful, it's going to be great to finally have her in your hands! I understand your anxiety, my leopard situation has me biting my fingernails ;) lol!

Exciting! Creatures are a hobby for both of us so I'm quite lucky. We both are :) I think even if one isn't particularly hobby orientated to the other they are still interesting to watch :)

I just wrote a reply and it disappeared lol. Basically said we are lucky as we are both creature orientated so even if one hobby isn't a hobby for the other one of us, it's still interesting to observe :) and exciting to know about the new member!!

Oh. There it is above this one. Now I look silly....

My wife is not very happy about my "tortoise chat room". But whenever babies hatch she has to see them and then give the customary oohs and ahhhs. "oh they're sooo cute..." and she does call and tell me how she put the leopards out and then soaked them on the way back in. Ahh, I sure love her on those days...

BTW Clare, a sulcata WILL trash the garden and, yes, your marigolds will be toast. :) but they really are the best tortoise in existence, even with their drawbacks.

I'm not bothered haha, it's what my husband said. I think the marigolds are horrid! :D best thing for 'em! Newton gets the chat side of it as he's on a forum, but he constantly reminds me that I used to call him a "geek" haha!
