It's been a good 6 or 7 years since I've seen one for sale. That was a male Homopus areolatus and he was $3,000.
The only thing out there close would be some Bowsprit tortoises, Chersina angulata. There are pairs for sale for $3,500.
I haven't seen a Speckled tortoise for sale, since I bought the one I had, for almost 20 years. Don't even want to think what you'd have to pay for one now.
Don't know I had him 5 years and the previous owner had him 5 years. He was adult when he came in. So I'm guessing he died of old age, as they don't live for more than 30 years in the wild.
Thats the thing you can't get them I haven't seen a Speckled tortoise for sale for almost 20 years. They can't be imported now from South Africa. So unless one comes up for sale that is already in the country, you can't get one.
3 inches!!! Oh I bet that is so cool have a tort be old but yet be only 3 inches becauses thats as big as he gets.. How long does it take to grow to a full 3 inches?
If you are so interested in tiny torts, why not get an Egyptian? they at least, sell for under 1,000 (hatchies around 450-500) and only get like 4 inches
Yes, I can understand that. But you just can't FIND them. Danny wouldn't steer you wrong. He knows what he's talking about. When I first got into torts, I did the research thing and found out about padloppers too. But egyptians are hardly any larger.
