So I bought 7lbs of pasture seeds from grow organic and I want to plant it properly in my outdoor pens.

Is this a seed you just throw down and keep wet? Or lightly rake it in?

I'm starting with just bare dirt. I have a bag of peat moss so I was going to lightly cover the exposed seed and keep watered.

Any tips?

My only tip is protecting it from birds. Using straw to lay a thin layer over the seeds helps it to not be blow from the wind, but also protects it from the birds. Yes, they will eat the seeds.

I just planted some today. I toss a very thin layer of dirt from my compost pile over the seeds. Rake a bit, and water gently. I plant several times a year. My sulcatas pen gets thin, and holes. I just toss seeds in with the existing grass. I have never had much luck when not covering seeds.

Thank you! I put the seed down yesterday and sprinkled peat moss over it and raked tonight.
I really need to keep up on the watering. I watered about 5x yesterday.

I churn the soil with a shovel, mix in some compost, and water heavily. Then I sprinkle the seed and put about a quarter to half an inch of soil over it. Keep it wet for the next week at least. Do not let the surface layer dry out. I have to water every hour in summer to achieve this.

If you don't cover it, the birds will come dig up all your seed and eat it.

If you rake the area after planting, you will churn the seeds back up to the surface.
