Hi all!

I am planning on purchasing a redfoot hatchling within the next few weeks and am in the process of setting up their enclosure. I've heard varying thoughts as far as what temperature to keep the tank at and want to make sure they have the best setup possible to thrive.

My plan for right now is a basking lamp and UV bulb on one end that ranges from 90-95 degrees, and a heating pad under the opposite end of the tank to ensure it stays above 80. I am just using a plastic tub for now and am going to be lining it with black plastic or a trash bag to help keep the humidity and heat in. The two bulbs will be on timers and the heating pad will stay on 24/7. Is this adequate heat for a hatchling?

Don't use bulbs
Use a T5 uvb florescent tube light and a CHE for warmth.
Avoid any bright lighting.
Your temperatures need to be at least 80. But no higher than 86.
82 to 84 being perfect.
You'll need humidity if over 75% day and night.
A "closed chamber" enclosure is what you should build.
Redfoot need special care.
They're not for everyone.
But after you get everything figured out, they are a very good pet tortoise
