Which are the smallest species of hinge backs, or are they all pretty much similar in size?

Kinixys natalensis is the smallest. They reach 6" for females and slightly smaller for males as adults. Erosa, Belliana and domergyuei can reach 10-12" upwards of 10 pounds. But your pretty much correct and assuming they all stay relatively the same size give or take a few specimens and species.

I'm thinking about it! But in about 2 years: I work out of town during the week and am home on weekends. My wonderful hubby takes care of our 3 cats and my tort (a Hermann's) but he has his own business as a professional photographer, so he's got a lot on his plate. We agreed "no new animals" until I'm back home a LOT more- and I think that's fair.

But I'm one who likes to research BUNCHES before I take the plunge! So I've got time.:p

You have to think about that an adult belliana get so big like a hermann circa. And now you can look how much space they need. I keep mine in not the biggest enclosure because they sleep the most time and are active in the summer when they're outside.
