LOOK at this video...

Can anything be done about this? I am so bad I can barely speak. I can get his personal information (address, etc) off of Fauna.. As he is a member there if that can help?

I love to put that guy in a box about the size of a refrigerator and leave him in there as long as those tortoises have been in there. So sad. I can't understand what some people are thinking.

You're just being nice! I'd like to spend about 10 minutes with this guy and make him fit into the tank the torts are in...but that's just me!;)

Maggie, He has two Sulcata (he so lovingly calls them turtles).. I estimate 10-15 lbs each, BOTH in A TEN gallon aquarium. Stating that he only puts them in there at night so that predators don't get to them. They don't even have room to turn around! They both have pretty terrible pyramiding, and it is just a sad video. It was posted up within the last week.

How could someone do that to two helpless creatures.. That just want to eat. How would he feel? He states that they are his granddaughters. Can he not build them a tort table?

Is there nothing that can be done about this? Can a warning be in place about a tort table being made within a time limit, and then if not, can something else be done? Can the tortoises be seized?

I know with horses, we seize them after we get a warrant. I know a horse and a tortoise are two totally different animals, but they are still animals, still living creatures.

Laura, can you start by making a comment on the video suggesting he log on to this web site for some much-needed advice and information about his "turtles"?

He sounds like he is completely unaware that what he's doing is unspeakably cruel and negligent. As a reformed cruel and negligent tortoise owner, I would like to say that if we had been told we were keeping Taco all wrong we would have corrected our care habits sooner.

Maybe this guy just needs to be told.

I get where you are coming from Steph..

But he is a reptile "business" owner. He breeds snakes (Corn snakes and ball pythons) and Bearded Dragons. I just don't think him breeding reptiles, and 'loving' them he wouldn't know the correct husbandry for his tortoises. Although, his beardies don't have the best care..

I just believe he should do some research before adopting these animals and creating a business out of it..

You are a owner of a tortoises, because you like the pet. You love the animal, and they are strictly a pet, not a mere upcoming breeding 'project.'

He is the owner of pets, because they are his source or income.

I logged on and made a comment because I didn't see that anyone else had. Maybe he'll stop by and check the site out and figure out something better for them. I liked your idea stephanie about inviting him to learn more as opposed to just telling him he's an awful guy for not knowing.

Italianlnm. I totally agree with you that he should have done his research on his animals. Looks like he didn't though (which makes him like MOST pet owners... ;) However, it's kinda rough to say that he only owns them for profit. Cutesy names like bobo (Mr. Bojangles) don't scream to me that he only owns them for business. All the guys I've known who raise animals for business don't name their animals. I used to raise pigeons as a food source for some hawks and trust me, not a one of them ever had a name.

It doesn't look like he's really trying too hard to take care of any of his animals though. Looks like they're all on newspaper. Actually, now that I look I have no idea what kind of paper his torts are on. That's weird. Poor "bluebeard" and torts.

Peanutbutter,

The reason I say he has them as his business.. I bought a Ball Python from him a while back.. I mean a good while, and I decided to look his youtube up, as it was in his signtature on Fauna (A reptile selling classifieds site). I am positive that is what he does.. As he has adds up on fauna listing animals he has for sale.

I wouldn't just throw that out there, if I didn't know for sure.

Oh, okay. I didn't see anything on the video about him selling them so I was confused as to where that came from. It makes sense if you've worked with him in the past. How is your python doing? Was it healthy when you got it?

Since they grow so fast.. he wont be able to do that much longer.. if they survive it..
EDUCATION is sometimes the KEY.. start there first..

ok,, i just watched the video.. they are about softball size.. he picks them up and holds them. several posts to help him and one slamming him..
He has them outside all day and brings them in at night to protect them from predators.. not a bad thing to do.. Mine sleep at night, and dont walk around.. some pyrimiding.. not the worst Ive seen..
They look healthy.. Hoping he gets info and builds a night qaurters for them outside or better inside..
Im not outraged by that.. not thrilled either but...

If you look closely, you can see about 4 pebbles of alfalfa pellets and then, of course, the crumpled up newspaper.

I would see nothing wrong with bringing them inside at night and putting them into that tank if he were to turn out the light and not feed them. But bringing them indoors, lighting them up and feeding them...they need much more room because they're not brought in to sleep.

Again,

Why would you delete it, if you didn't think anything is wrong. If I didn't know something was wrong with my husbandry, I wouldn't delete the video because people were telling me that it wasn't right. I would try to fix it, and not delete it. I might even make another one, showing that it had been fixed.

I just find that weird.

He probably deleted it because of all of the negative feedback he was getting posted on there. I read some of them. I was glad people posted for him to see that it could be set up much better then it was. He should listen to people and redo the enclosure and then put new pictures up to let people see that he does care for the tortoises.

OK Thanks, probably better that I can't see it...

This person is involved in a BOI thread, though not tortoise related. Some folks on there suggested the video wasn't helping the case, which may be why it is down.

Board of Inquiry, Tom. It is a section of the FaunaClassifieds forum where you can post good and bad experiences. Shortened form - BOI.

I recommend anyone that is potentially going to purchase a reptile online, do a search on the BOI for the seller. If I had done that before I bought my Russians, I would have NEVER bought from who I did.

The moderators on the BOI are really good about requiring PROOF and not just letting people get into bash sessions. If you are making a claim, you had better have emails/screenshots etc. to back it up.
