Hi, we adopted this sweet spur thigh in the autumn. We think it maybe female, but aren’t sure. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Hello and welcome from Devon. I have a Hermann's tortoise, who is now 24 years old - we have had him from a baby, and I wish this forum had been around then - this is the best place to come to learn about tortoises from people who have had years of experience and knowledge. I am not any sort of expert, but to me your little one looks like a boy, because he has his tail tucked up like Zola does. However, I'm sure other people will be around soon.

How about more pictures from different angles.
Bigger/more of the plastron would help, plus from the side.

Still not sure, but I must say that I love his/her expression in the sideways photo - it says a lot, somehow !

Looks female to me, based on the plastron having a V shape target than a U and the tail looking on the smaller side

Disclaimer: I'm not an expert in this area. Do you know the tortoise's age?

Thank you for the information. She’s 8 years old. The person who gave her to me said she thought she was female but I wasn’t at all sure after comparing to other photos on here.
