That's what I was wondering. The females shell must be super strong. The size difference is just so massive.

What kind of vocals do the males make when mating? I have so many species of tortoise and it baffles me how different the vocals of the male can vary from specie to specie. My dabras were traded a few years ago for some spider torts and I never got to observe them (weren't big enough to breed yet) kinda a weird question but it's interesting to me.

Kinda like cows, sorta a deep muffled groan sound. Low decibel but clear and the sound does carry. Our neighbor four houses down can here them, lol!

Awesome. I was wondering if it was cowosh like. The funniest ones of mine are the chacos. The male sounds like a mouse.

Now that is hilarious! I can imagine them having a big party in the yard and someone asks "Is that a cow I hear???" "No, it's the giant tortoises down the street." I'm amazed they are so loud. :D
