I have also seen berlandieri/agassizii crosses. I suppose that is possible too.The Texas tortoise has a wedge-shaped head while the desert tortoise has a more rounded head. We're told the Texas tortoise doesn't have a nuchal scute, while the desert tortoise does. . . however this isn't always true. I have a group of Texas tortoises and some have a nuchal scute.
The tortoise pictured is a young tortoise, but I think Tom has given the correct I.D.
