Aww, Terry, give us a little break! It was just a bit of comic relief to alleviate the tension of this situation! :p

TUESDAY??!! I don't know if I can stand it...though I completely understand and support your "let Mother Nature work first" strategy. ;)

Aww Stephanie.. I've been waiting since July 29 2009.. I already mentioned that didn't I?

tension???????????????????????????????????????????

Seriously -- now that this little guy is an air breathing reptile he will have to rely on his "yolk-sac" to nourish him, etc. Even after his yolk-sac is absorbed he will rely on the internal to feed him for several more days!

Another reason for starting this thread is to explain the importance of making sure who we get our hatchlings from. IF a hatchling has not established good eating habits before it is shipped, etc. - most likely it will have health issues for awhile. And most newbies don't know how to deal with the stress that is created and the fact that their baby won't eat.. understandably! It make take a week before this little guy will take his first bite of anything.. AFTER his yolk-sac is entirely absorbed!!! How do you deal with that? Most vets sure don't know.

Most of this can be found thru-out my websites.

Is he/she out yet? I'm going out to dinner so I won't be here for a little while and am afraid of missing it.

HOW.. did he get turned around?

a123PIP2p.jpg

Check out the patterns on his nose.. and the solid color on top of his head! He decided to turn another 180 degrees and come out 'head-first'!

a123PIP2pT.jpg

Those colors will 'brighten-up' shortly.

By 6p he was out of the shell completely so I simply slid the shell out from under him.

He is not 100% 'cherryhead'..
36_2_52.gif
.. so he'll probly be available sometime in March.

More pics later...

Wow! What striking and symmetric coloring he has (at least what I can see).

Does a "100% Cherryhead have nothing but red on those facial plates?

Congratulations! I am sorry you are disappointed in the little guy. :p

Stephanie he is a beauty! That symmetry is not common. I've only seen it a half dozen times in all the ones I've hatched. The colors will change soon [ brighter ].. that's not disappointing.. he even has the Brazilian plastron. Maybe I am getting ahead of the situation - need to give him another week or two. Really haven't seen his face yet!

Actually you're probly right dreadya.. thanks!

What I am looking for is the "cherryhead" carapace. I'll post pics ASAP!!!

It's been a long day celebrating my wifes birthday [ out of town dinner, etc. ] which is actually tomorrow.. but she wanted to stay home and watch the NFL play-offs then. She will celebrate her 39th birthday tomorrow Jan. 24th.. for the 23rd time...... :D

Well I knew I would miss it. Oh well I get to see it anyway right Terry because you posted beautiful pictures of him/her. I don't get the 100% Cherryhead thing either weren't the parents 100%? Tell your wife Happy Birthday from us here at TFO. I think it's funny the way you told us how young she is pretty tricky. :D

"We" are not sure how long a female can retain sperm from any given male Candy! The Brazilian female that laid this egg hasn't been with a Guyana male since late July '08. And she laid those eggs a year later!

I have reasons to believe that more than one male can throw his "traits" into a clutch of eggs.

[ for reference only ] I have seen over 200 hatchlings from my 'group' and have seen one hatchling with certain traits and another with other traits.. each from 2 different males in the same clutch!

The "patterns" on the head of this new hatchling in this thread are the same as "Arrowhead" on the Caresheet.. and it hatched in '06 fertilized by one of my Guyana males; laid by one of my Colombian females. I'll get comparison pics ASAP.

So to answer the Q? about 100% Cherryhead? How long can a female retain sperm? Or can they climb a 16" plywood wall?

Love the 2 polka dot and nose symmetry.
I'm pretty sure most tortoises can hold sperm from several for years, so who knows.
I love him.
You wanted a lighter carapace? Is the plastron lined with the dark?
March, huh, I'm still looking for #2 :)
looking for a CH RF tho same size as mine, 6" or so in case they end up breeding. me being also 39 (plus 26 haha, so an older age hobby)

This little guy has little yolk-sac and you can see the 'dark seams' I mentioned at what 2.. days -

a123YOLK.jpg

I'll get a good carapace pic in a few.

These are 'pure' - couple months old.. typical carapace and noses -

Still looking for the 'nose' pattern comparison...

Wow he could have stayed in there for a while longer with that yolk sac. I think that's the biggest one I've seen posted on here. Beautiful baby I want to see his/her face next time. :D

Not really Candy.. that's actually well absorbed!

See this one is much more common..

I've already aggrevated him too much! Too many "flashes" at him! He needs to rest for awhile. Did you go "dancing" 2 days after you gave birth?

Terry, thanks so much for taking the time to post those pictures for us. I was very impressed and like the others I was on the edge of my seat...Great pictures so clear and bright. I love Redfoot babies and their colors. I wish I could have a Redfoot Sulcata, that would be pretty....:p
