Dear all,
Would like to seek your expertise as to what happen to it. Is this so called flashing? Saw it sticking out and had it soak for 20min in hope that it will retract but it didn't. And by the way, what tortoise is this? Looks like a testudo to me but not sure of the species. Thanks a mil!

That is a prolapse. Tortoise needs an experienced tortoise vet ASAP.

I can't tell which species it is either.

You will want to go to the vet to see why the prolapse occurred (maybe stones that she can't pass?) as well as to push it back in. The sugar paste will help shrink it and keep it moist otherwise it will dry out. I would still wait for Yvonne as she has a lot more experience.

Looks like a little egyptian tortoise.

This is quite serious. It looks like a female and part of her "female parts" have prolapsed. This usually happens because of straining. Either straining to lay eggs, or pass stones or due to constipation. The vet will push the prolapse back inside, but you must determine why it happened and fix the 'why' or it will happen again. Keep it moist until you can get to a vet. It wouldn't be harmful to just leave the tortoise sitting in a tub of shallow water even on the trip to the vet.

Intestinal prolapse a vet is needed ASAP. The sugar draws moisture out, shrinking the prolapse.

How about the sugar paste? How does it works?

You make a paste by adding just a tiny bit of water to either powdered or granulated sugar then dab the paste on the prolapse. The sugar draws out the moisture, causing it to shrink. At least that's what's supposed to happen. I've never had it to work.

Brought the tort to a vet. Procedure was nicely done with suture in place. Next is to monitor and keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for all the kind advice.
What's the species anyone? It has a black beak.
