The box should be Ok then if no chemicals have been in it.
Great that you found what will hopefully be a forever home for the tort.
Don't forget to tell them about this forum and get them to become a member so they can get all up to date advice and help they need as well as great ideas for enclosures etc. and save some money in pet stores. Especially tell them not to buy any coiled or loop type bulbs as these can damage tort eyes and red bulbs confuse them (makes them eat things they shouldn't) it will be a waste of their money and unsafe for the tort.
There's a lot of old information out there that is still being used by some people to rear their torts, but much more is known about them and their needs now so instead of just surviving torts can thrive and live much longer, healthier lives.
I hope this little one you saved goes on to have a long and happy life too!
Ok! I will tell them about the lamps and I've already told them about this website :) and I can Say with certainty that it will be happy as they have multiple pets and love them al, I will also be checking up on it whenever I can.

That's good to hear! It would be nice if they could post pics of him as he grows so we can see how he's doing too. There are a few members in France.
If they have dogs tell them not to trust them near the tort. There are some horrific stories on here of torts killed by normally quiet family dogs. who have suddenly turned on them. They don't understand torts and can be spooked by them for no reason or think they are chew toys......not a happy ending for the tort.:(
Keep in touch!!

Yes they will need lamps because it is just a baby and our european climate can be very chilly.
I use an Arcadia mvb bulb for my tort which is in a wide domed fitting with a ceramic holder, and a ceramic heat emitter also in a wide domed ceramic holder fitting , but my tort is an older leopard who needs higher temps so I will find someone who has a russian tort to help you.
The mvb bulb gives heat, light and essential uvb in one bulb. They need uvb to absorb calcium and the nutrients. Some people prefer uvb strip lights and then have a basking bulb as well.
The che is run through a thermostat and I use it at night to keep the temps even. It does not give out light because torts need darkness to sleep.
I will find a Russian owner and get back to you.

Posted a new thread and someone should be along to help soon.
Setting up a home can be expensive to start but as with all animals if you have them you have to give the correct care.
It does get easier and cheaper!!

Thank you for the thread! :) And I'd love to have her join but she only speaks french :') so I don't know if she'd understand anything

Google translate is a wonderful tool. I managed to complete a telephone order entirely in French this morning with the help of it :)

If you use the Chrome browser it will translate the posts into French automatically for you :)

She can then use Google translate to help her respond in English :)

Aww, we have a Russian Tortoise, Sheldon, & love him. ❤️ I hope you find the owners, or can keep him. He should be soaked daily since he is a baby. They love to “hide” & burrow too, & need a heat lamp during the day, not too cold at night. We give Sheldon Raducchio, spring mix, dandelions, romaine lettuce- hope that helps- keep us posted on the little guy!

Hey, I actualy checked before hand if the box was dangerous and the products inside were chemical free so it should be okay (but I can still change it if I have to.) As for the soaking I did this when I found it, I'll ask my mother to do it while I'm at school :)
And I have good news! I found someone that would be willing to look after it and they are already buying everything they need to look after it. They also have a friend that has tortoises so they can get advice, (i will also give them the Care sheets I have found here) they have a large garden so when It gets older they will have room for it :)

that little tort was very lucky that someone as caring as you found him. Great job !
