Good afternoon everyone!

Daisy had a scan without being sedated because she was such a good girl. The initial reports show that the build of calcium, which could be the cause of the lumps, is due to unfertilised eggs! Just to let you know that Jacky is Jacqueline. When the results come back the vet will let me know the next cause of action.

Hum, I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm interested in finding out what the Dr's next step is . . sitting on pins & needles. . .
I shall try and Google what that could be.

PS: So pleased to put Jacky and Daisy to bed together. Just want to say that I do my best for the girls and I would like to have them outside for longer but it's awkward when you're in a flat without a private garden. The vet thinks that they could be lacking in calcium if they spend part of the day inside without a UV lamp. As it is they spend six hours inside on some days and about ten hours on other days.

Just my opinion. I would not let the vet do surgery without first trying oxytocin to get the eggs out.
Thankyou so much @wellington. I want to try to avoid an operation if possible because above it carries a risk. He said that a lack of calcium could be one reason why she was unable to pass these eggs but then it could have been something that was happening over time. I sprinkle calcium powder on her food all the time.

PS: I think this forum is wonderful.

Chances are the vet might ring today and I have decided not to go ahead with any operation unles oxytocin or some other medicine is tried first. Also I have stopped giving Jacky and Daisy any calcium supplement as I believe they've had too much.

I don't have any females any more. I do know females need more calcium then males due to the eggs. However, too much can be as bad as to little.
A tiny sprinkle two to three times a week along with a good diet should be enough.
I would add a uvb light though for those days they can't go outside.
Good luck, hope you get that call today, let us know.

I shall phone the vets as soon as I get a chance tomorrow and try to relax. I was sorting Jacky and Daisy out when and of course I can't be near the phone all the time.

Just found that I hadn't turned my phone up after my Piano pupil because my brain was full of things. Very frustrated but Daisy's probably okay.

I phoned the vet and the receptionist answered saying that he wasn't in and the he was away for the week. She looked at what he said about Daisy's results and he had described her a complex case. Another vet was going to ring after consults but hasn't done so yet. Felt sickened at first but there's not much I can do. The vet did say that there were so many eggs and also in my experience as a former carer for my dad I have learnt to expect the worst.

It could be that she has so many eggs that it is complex to remove them and of course the calcium issue makes it more complicated. I rather wish that the receptionist had said she would prefer that I speak to the vet. On a lighter note when I got back from my pupil's I went to put the tortoises out and I had put Jacky out but I didn't put the latch up and the keys were in the bathroom with Daisy. Therefore Jacky and I made our way to the estate agents to get the spare keys. At the estate agents we were a laughing stock and several couldn't believe what they were seeing. Anyway we were given a lift back and Jacky was a very good girl.

The lovely vet phoned and went through everything that was found and said that Daisy was complicated because of the issues that they found but the issues are age related and things that we can associate with as humans. They were most concerned about her bone near her back legs which could have an abscess. She recommended that I could take Daisy to a specialist on the otherside of London but otherwise they could take a sample from Daisy at the surgery and send it off. Depending on the results they could treat Daisy at their surgery with guidance from the specialist or they may have to give us a referral anyway. I decided to ask our vet to send off a sample to the specialist and take it from there because I don't drive and I would have to take Daisy to the otherside of London so much as I would like her to see the specialist I want to see if she can be treated here first.

Feeling better now

Of course Jacky was a good girl - they are both very good girls - just like Zola is always a very good boy, whatever he does!

That's good news on the whole then - I feel better too- Zola and I have grown fond of your girls, following their lives like this, and I wish we lived near you, to take you to the specialist. But if your usual vet can deal with it, that would be a relief. I hope the three of you sleep well tonight.

The bone could have an abscess or it could be cancer but they want to find out what it is but all things considered Daisy's in good spirits.

Ladies, Angie & MaNaAk, I really enjoy hearing of the exploits of Lola :tort:, Jacky :tort:& Daisy :tort: . This is prompting me to figure out how I can get my buddy Seymour:tort: to come along with me when I go for a walk or run errands.. I have a stainless steel screened pack for my parrot's,🦜 that I'm sure could be adapted to Seymour, then he could come out when I get somewhere. . .
