Thanks for the words of encouragement everyone. Really hoping Herman comes out of his home on his own again tomorrow!

DeanS, I'm so sorry to hear about Aladar, I hope he feels better soon.

Awww that's awesome!!! So happy for you two!

Herman came out on his own again this AM and is currently in the bath drinking lots of water (still hasn't ate though). Do you guys think it's possible that if he keeps drinking so much that it'll be able to reverse some of his renal failure?

Great news on Aladar!!!

I don't have any real knowledge of renal failure, sorry. It is encouraging that he is coming out on his own still. When is the Vet again?

I don't have any set time for the vet to come back at this point. I've been keeping him updated on his condition and will probably have him come back some time this week though. I'm happy at least he is drinking so much water and is alert!

Hey guys,

So Herman came out of his house again this morning very early and on his own (yay!). When I saw him coming out I went out there and by the time I had gone out he had something in his throat and he was swallowing. I've been leaving some food out there for him incase he decides to eat but I'm not sure if it was that he ate or if he had thrown up and was trying to swallow it back down. He didn't seem too interested in food after but it's really hard for me to tell-- I had left part of a peach and three Mazuri balls out there which are now gone, however my dog also loves those things and it's possible he went out and ate it. The vet is coming back either today or tomorrow to give him more medicine and I'm going to bathe him soon. Still no more poop... but not giving up yet!

It don't seem like he's being more active. Let's hope this is a sign that he is doing better. It's really good that he's drinking water, hydration is very good for him at this point. I hope he did eat some of the food out there and that it wasn't just a treat for your dog. lol Keep us posted and let us know what the vet has to say also.

Yeah, I wouldn't say he's 'active'... Herman is usually VERY active, even more so than my other one. He does move around now but it's more like he walks somewhere to then sit and relax. He doesn't really walk just to walk, unless I probe him to. He is very alert though and hasn't been falling asleep everytime he walks to a new location. Right now he's out sitting in the sun and his head is out and he seems pretty content.

I meant more active then the days he didn't want to come out of his home.

There is no doubt that lots of fluids are good for his kidneys. Hopefully he is getting some mineral oil in his water to help the other end too.

So some good news:
Herman peed/pooped a LITTLE. not a lot, but something definitely came out.

The bad news: I'm pretty sure he needs to throw up but keeps swallowing it. I'm not sure what to do. I haven't fed him anything since Saturday and there's definitely something he's trying to get out of his throat(it's big enough for me to see and he let me feel it on his neck). If he really had to vomit would he be able to? I don't want him to choke...

Oh yes, he's definitely been getting mineral oil in his baths where he's been drinking a lot!

Hmmmmm, were the mazuri balls soft or hard? I am glad he is more active!!! Good news for sure!!! I would keep leaving him food out, great idea, can you keep the puppy in for a bit so you can see who ate it? I HOPE it was Herman!!!! I will send you some red tort sticks regular mail tomorrow, I don't have alot and right now the only one eating it Low Rider. Glad you got a little poo too!!! Yay poo!!!! :D

The Mazuri balls were VERY soft. Practically mush. I wrapped them in a very small amount of lettuce. I don't think that was the problem, I mean the dr fed him WAY bigger bites of stuff... I'm just afraid he has to throw up in general. Do you think he'd be able to if he really had to? He swallowed it this morning and then I saw it come up just a few minutes ago.

What are red tort sticks??? Thank you!!! I'm happy to hear Low Rider is eating them :)

It's another tortie food that alot of zoos use. Lou didn't like them at all or the other babies, I only got a pound just in case. But Low Rider likes them!!

I think if he needed to throw up he would. I wonder what it could be!! I am so lucky, I just barely squeeze Lou's jaws and he opens right up. But he only weighs 5 lbs!!! :D When is the vet coming again?

I called the vet to come today but he hasn't called me back (I called him early this morning, so annoying). I'm hoping he calls early tomorrow and comes then. Herman just went in for the night-- I didn't see it in his throat so I'm hoping it's OK for now. Herman (or one of my other torts, I forget) had thrown up years ago so I know he can... I'm just worried he's trying so hard not to that it might just sit there.

Oh and thank you sooo much for the Red Tort sticks. If either of them like them I'll have to buy some-- I definitely plan to buy some more Mazuri too :)

No... not really. It usually happens after a bath and while he's walking. Not to be gross but it's more of like squirts... It's not a substantial full poop. It's liquid but definitely the color of poop. While he bathes (and occasionally while he's relaxing) he does stick all of his limbs out and it seems like he's pushing, but usually if he does that it's like he's passing gas.

Just talked to the vet and he's going to come out tomorrow and take another blood test to see if the numbers have improved or not... I'm so nervous :(

Since it is liquid, there might still be a blockage that the liquid is passing around. Still, any activity down there is good activity.

Yeah, I am hoping that the "blockage" is just a lot of poop... the x ray didn't show anything like a rock etc., just lots of poop build up.
