So we are finally getting sun even tho it's windy and only about 55 degrees. It's supposed to be in the 80's today and tomorrow. So I put 2 of my small tortoises outside together for the first time in the new pen. Here they are meeting, the smaller of the 2 acting more aggressive...

they are just sniffing and getting to know who they are...

I wish this was a clearer picture...is that a bite or a lick???

Now the bigger one, who I think is female takes a sniff...

Now they separate and the one I *think* is male gets a look in his eye

Well, "he's" smaller and younger but there's no doubt...that's a bite and a big one at that!!!
i wonder if they'll make friends or if they'll have to be separated?!!!

How funny they are...

Fantastic! And I believe the smaller tort is trying to make like a snake....trying to open his mouth as big as possible to eat the other in his it entirety....lol...

You will be able to tell Maggie if they will be friend or foe in their outdoor yard....

Great photos? But when they meet, they should never be face to face. It makes them feel frighten and act out... The bite was probably "you are in my bubble" ... I wouldn't worry yet. I'd start them off at odd ends with food dead center ad a few plants near it so they can duck their head as the other sniffs about... After that kind of relaxed meeting knowing they have a big walk to get to the food and that they can always go back in that corner if need be....

I'm not worried about them, I just put them together and they either get along, or they don't. I put them at opposite ends of the enclosure. BTW...we live in Corvallis...

I'll admit it I'm a Lurker. I've learned so much from just reading everyone else's issues. Sometimes somebody else post to good of a reply to post after. Lol alot of smart people on this forum. ( biologist etc...)
