7 more hatched over the last few days. 6 from a clutch of 9 and one unexpected loner. Another is pipping out of the 9 too. Last photo shows a 3 month old in comparison to a hatchling

They just can't resist flowers. We feed once a day, but when I just want to sit for an hour or so watching them I use flowers to coax them out.

Had 3 hatch over the last couple of days. 1 of which is a first for one of my females, I expected it to be lighter in color, the female and both males are yellow. There is another of hers pipping too, so 2 out of 6 eggs from her.(4 being duds)
The other 2 are from a clutch of 7, the remaining 5 eggs look OK too.

The hatchling in middle and on left are siblings. They are also in the last photo.

3 with UVB and 3 without, everything else will be identical.
Always love to see newborns turtles and tortoises, so cute.
Seems like cruelty to innocent dumb animals to me. In nature they at least have the choice to go out and bask. You seem to see basking and light as some sort of cruel dehydrating medium instead of natural processes. Also wasn't it established some years ago that tortoises cannot metabolize D but need to get it from the sun or artificial lights?

There is a uvb tube light, they also get D3 from diet, and yes I am convinced at such a young age they would not bask directly in the heat of the sun which dries them out, This doesn't mean they don't have the instinct to bask, maybe predators pick off the ones that are out in the open. Who knows?????? Do you think providing a red hot basking spot does them good, then I would have to find ways to super hydrate them to compensate for the intense drying process I created. The learning curve continues. Maybe a 1hr basking slot is the answer.

Who is stupid enough to provide ANYTHING red hot to a baby animal? REALLY!
Lol. Made me laugh. It was a figure of speech, the point is I'm not letting my babies sit under a basking light to dry the carapace and new supple keratin growth, and also probably not contributing to dehydration. If I end up with a load of ugly and/or unhealthy babies then I was wrong. Time will tell.

These 2 guys are around 6 wks old now. These went straight onto my monthly diet schedule, which includes protein every 10 days. You can see there is already a wide growth crevice. Never has this happened before to my babies, they always grow perfectly smooth up until at least 4 months old. I'm cutting protein to once a month at the most. They'll have to hunt down bugs and worms more often if they want protein.

This one is 4 months and was fed protein from 3 months old, I think I wider growth crevice is just starting to appear IMG_0824.JPG

This one is about 14 months now. Fed protein from 6 months old, which is also the time the growth changed.
