They live in moist environments eating decomposing material and if it dries out the gnats and larvae die. They dont live very long either

Oh dear Tom. As much as I love the ocean, I wouldn't live in any state on them. I love Chicago, the whole world is right here. Plus I never worry about my house getting demolished by mother nature.

Not to change the subject, but the bugs in your video are definitely not fleas. Also of note, fleas utilize warm-blooded host animals rather than cold-blooded ones like reptiles.
