I just finished my Master's degree in Fish and Wildlife Biology this May, I've been living in my parents house ever since, fervently applying to jobs. I have ~80 applications out thus far with no luck, I'm losing patience.

Anyone want to employ a wildlife biologist? I have to get out of my house!!!

I'm not really sure what your title consists of. However I do know that the Great Lakes states are continuously searching for ways to rid our great lakes of invasive fish and mussels. Also many inland lakes and rivers have also been invaded with some of these and are causing all kinds of problems, not only with the invasive species, but the weeds that are growing out of control in the waters because of the invasive species. Can your education help with that? I know Lake Michigan and the states of Illinois and Michigan are facing these problems. I would assume Wisconsin and Indiana also. I am not sure if it has it the other Great Lakes yet or not, but it will if a solution is not found. Good luck in your search.

This is exactly the type of work I do, I actually worked on invasive species for my Masters thesis and I've applied to a couple jobs in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Keep your fingers crossed!

I'm mostly venting with this post. I sure hope something comes up soon.

Keeping fingers cross. We need the help and the invasive taken care of. The river up in Michigan that my parents live on gets horrible. The invasive zebra mussels that invaded the Great Lakes have been brought to many inland lakes and rivers. The weeds on the river gets so bad, because of what the zebras have destroyed, that you can barely eat a boat through them. Its awful. Don't forget. You have to keep after them. The squeaky wheel gets heard.

I wish you loads of luck....keep on chipping away, also --if you have not already done so...apply for some of the positions that "kinda" consist of what you have educated yourself for---not necessarily "the dream job" to start with...sometimes this is a way that you can get into somewhere as well as expand your resume :D

Were there lots of positions matching your current educational attainments just before you began the graduate program?

I've been applying to just about everything I'm qualified or just barely "eligible" for. I'll admit, sometimes my cover letters really stretch the job requirements listed, but it's worth putting myself out there for, and I'll tell you, those are the jobs that are toughest to apply to! No dream job here, just looking to get my foot in the door with any state, federal, or private agency.

There's always jobs coming up, but it's a competitive field. The baby boomers have begun mounting the retirement horse over the past few years, helping my current situation, but the economy is not. Thus far, three federal jobs I've applied to have caved due to funding being lost.

I appreciate the support all! :)

Good Luck on the job quest, Have you tried places like National Geographic, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Potomac River Fisheries? Maybe not these in particular but ones similar to these.

This is just a thought...but have you considered volunteering your expertise anywhere (preferably the place of your dreams)? Often, when volunteers do an outstanding job, they are usually the first ones asked to stay on. Just a thought.

How many total open positions are there for a person with your level of experience?

This is not a bad idea, as long as you're careful. I graduated with a degree in Wildlife Biology from K-State and applied so many places with no luck it was truly disheartening. I finally found a nonprofit organization in New Mexico that was looking for an intern for their wildlife issues, with the promise of a job after 6 months if everything worked out. It was king of a big risk, but I took it, and it paid off big time. I was an intern for only about 2.5 months before they hired me full time. It was an awesome job, IMO. Have you looked at wildlife conservation nonprofits, like Nature Conservancy, or the National Wildlife Federation, or World Wildlife Fund, or things like that? I don't know specifically where you've been looking, but sometimes organizations like that only list job openings on their websites. Might be worth a look... Just a thought. Good luck!!!!!!
