Good evening everyone!

Angie I thought of you when I saw the forecast yesterday and Sue did you get a thunderstorm in the evening. The temperature in Southend was hitting 30 degrees Celsius yesterday and it felt a bit oppressive. There were a couple of spots of rain when I walked into town to meet my friend for dinner at Tomassi's but that was all. Today was still hot with Jacky's thermostat hitting 27.50 degrees Celsius but then there was a breeze in the afternoon and a few spots of rain.

Both of us were out today and we both enjoyed thus weather although someone else enjoyed themselves in the bathroom. Jacky is now in bed after her busy day which included strolling over my like Sherman did Pete and I ended up at a garden party for the Southend Musical Festival stewards.

Zola did you get your stroll today? I had Jacky on my lap this morning and she had a long stroke which she seemed to love.

Goodnight everyone

Natrah, Jacky and Angel Daisy
No storm just a very light shower yesterday afternoon which barely wet the ground.
Sherman didn’t bother Pete at all when he was fixing the pond filter much to my surprise. He was quite active but clearly had other things on his mind ☺️
Today has been cloudy & very windy which kept the temperature down a bit thank goodness. Hoping for rain this week 🙏🏻

Dear Natrah - today our friend Mark came to service our oil-fired Stanley cooker/water heater, ready for the winter. We had tried it recently, and it didn't sound right. (It is similar to an Aga - only cheaper, and we have to do this every year). It seems that some water has got into the oil tank in the back garden, and Mark will have to siphon the water out from the base ) He seems confident that it can be done - the water sinks to the bottom - we had recently had the tank filled up with oil, so we really hope that won't make it harder. There is always something going wrong, isn't there !
Zola had a walk as usual on the breakwater - he seems very lively - unlike his mum !
Anyway, here is a view of the window box which you can also see under the window on the right of the previous photo. I hope you like it.

Good evening everyone!

I'm writing on behalf of Jacky as well as she has gone to bed and she wanted me to let you know that she found an old friend in the bathroom 🤣! It's still quite warm here and I preferred to bring her into the bathroom if I'm because I feel that the enclosure will be too warm. Anyway she got to enjoy some more late sun when I got back.

She seems to be doing okay and is accepting her new supplements. Anyway Angie your garden must be show-stopping it looks beautiful with all that colour. Richard has very green fingers I try to look after the garden here and I'm looking out for the Jersey Tiger Moths. I Mark is okay with the tank I'm waiting for the plumber to change the taps in the bathroom. Sue I am going to have to phone British Gas and tell them what I think of them again as still haven't received my card! Anyway enjoy the picture below everyone:

Goodnight

Dear Edward,

Do you get the midnight sun in your part of Finland? How many hours of daylight do you get? I'd love to see some pictures.

Dear Natrah - it has been foggy and murky for a lot of the day - we were not planning on going anywhere specia, because Mark said he would try to come in the afternoon - but he didn't - however, it wasn't very nice out still, so Zola didn't get his walk. He did get a long stroke, of course, though. Mark is coming early tomorrow,he says, so we hope he will be able to sort the oil tank out then.
Our flowers do look good, don't they ! We find growing them in containers is good, as if any go over quickly, they can be replaced from elsewhere in the garden. We don't get many butterflies, which is a great pity - I remember as a child in Northamptonshire that there were lots of them every year. Still, we have our birds - the swallows are still around, and the robin especially bullies Richard for worms - if he sees him through the window, he glares at him until he comes out with the worm box ! We have lots of goldfinches - especially baby ones - fortunately they go to one of our feeders for seed - not worms !

Good evening everyone!

I have to admit that I am boiling hot here so I'm going to jump in the bath in a minute. Anyway I'm pleased to say that the taps are fixed and it all goes well tomorrow Angie. I noticed a young robin at the neighbour's feeder today and I thought of Angie's swallows and robins. Actually Angie do you have a buddleia because butterflies and moths love this? I remember all the butterflies and moths coming to our buddleias in the past and a couple of times we had hawk-moths.

I better go and jump in that bath now. Sue and Edward how is it where you two are?

Goodnight everyone

Today it’s been mostly cloudy but very warm. We had a sprinkle of rain early this morning that barely wet the ground. As you drive into town the grass is all going brown due to lack of rain & it’s still not mentioned in the forecast for us but will get hotter again, 30 degrees plus, over the coming weekend.
The poor wildlife will be suffering. The birds that visit us love the bird bath & more seem to be visiting each day for the food & water. I’m hardly seeing any hedgehogs in the garden despite the food I leave out for them. It’s quite worrying.
I have 2 buddleias, they have been smitten with black fly. So have the neighbours buddleais. Hopefully ours will survive but the others haven’t treated there’s & are looking very poor.
Saw a cabbage white butterfly yesterday but that’s about it. They all seem to be in Southend!

Dear Natrah -your mention of buddleias has inspired me to get one for our garden -I have seen some on line which have 3 different coloured branches (presumably grafted), and I thought that would be rather cool ! It would be lovely to see it covered with butterflies - I will order one tomorrow !
Mark came to sort out our oil tank - he siphoned off 30 litres of water ! He has to dispose of it somewhere special - not pour it on our garden. I never knew that water could get into a tank, but he says it is common, and just due to condensation over the years ! Mark then tried the heating, but the fuel pump also needs replacing, so he will come to fix that when the new one arrives, and then we should be set up for a few more years, I hope.
We had some rain this afternoon, and Zola didn't get his walk because of Mark being here, but he did get his stroke, which he really does enjoy - he likes to arrange himself in his chosen position before I start, -and to arrange me, too !

Dear Natrah -I have ordered a buddleia plant, but I don't suppose it will be flowering this year - it should have pink, white and blue branches, and we will keep it in a large container somewhere we can see it well - and see all the butterflies when they come, we hope. It's a treat to myself for my birthday, which is quite soon.
Zola had a lovely walk on the breakwater today, and met a lot of people, including one man who was amazed at how agile he is climbing over the rocks ! He met a group of people from a residential home for those with special needs, and they were fascinated by him too. I used to teach special needs children, and Richard came to the school to play his guitar and sing to the children,(who really loved him) so he makes a point of giving any such people extra attention when out with Zola, rather than ignoring them, as many people do.
Jack reallly does know what she wants, doesn't she ! An example to us all, really!
Lots of love to you and all our forum friends from Angie and Zola xxxxxxxxxxx

Good evening everyone!

It's been a lovely day here as well and I ended up with a day off because the pupils were either doing exams or going on school trips. The weather was just right so I imagine it would have been perfect for Zola's walk. I did some clearing in the garden and both of us heard goldfinches. I had to go out for a short while at lunchtime so Jacky came in and enjoyed the bathroom scales.

I had sandwiches on the cliffs and a 99 from Rossi's ice-cream parlour. Rossi's is famous for making ice-creams in Essex alongside Tomassi's. When I came back I put Jacky back outside and she spent a lot of time eating, basking and sleeping.

I think that Buddleia will bloom next year Angie and you may need to look at it at night as well as during the daytime. Meanwhile I hope everyone's prepared for hot weather including Edward:

Goodnight everyone
