Hi, I am new mum to a spur thigh and want to clarify a few things as there is so much contradictory advice flying around I want to ensure that I am doing my best.

1. Is 30 degrees c ok for basking lamp?

2. How cold should cool area be?

3. Is it ok to lightly spray water around enclosure ?

4. Should a humid hide be in main part of enclosure or sleep area?

5. I currently have soil substrate but am thinking of change it to orchid bark?

Thank you in advance

Basking needs to be around 38C 95-100F
Rest of the enclosure should be 75-80F day and can go down to 60F at night. Humidity should be 30-50% for an adult, 80% for hatchling.
Enclosure should be a minimum of a 4x8 foot for an adult.

Hello and welcome. Looks like Barb answered your questions pretty well already.

Are we talking about an adult? Different answers for a baby.

1. No. I recommend 36-37C.
2. 21-27C during the day. A little warmer or a little cooler is fine for this species, but that is a good range to shoot for.
3. Yes, though it won't do much. Soak the substrate by dumping water in as needed to maintain dampness.
4. I prefer one in each area.
5. Soil should never be used. Orchid bark is ideal.

Whenever the opportunity, get tortoise outside in the real sun. Make sure there is somewhere for it to shelter. Man, no matter how hard he/she tries, cannot better nature.
