Anyone have pictures of their beloved American Pit Bull Terriers or Staffordshires? I know of a lot of breed bans around the world, but if you have one, would love to see pics and to here your story on how you met! I have a TON of pics, but I can't show you mine till you show me yours ;)

well they're not mine, but I was fortunate enough to take care of them both for awhile while they were at the shelter and in need of homes...You asked for it...and as always I have pics in bulk.

here's Sasha, she was a young sweet girl who had some knee problems when she first came in but were fixed while she was with us and adopted out to a bunch of young professionals living together in the city...

And here's Osiris, he was actually a client at our clinic in the past, was recognized by our director at the city kill shelter and taken in, at around 12 years old in horrible condition(skin, legs, etc.) and with a neuter, some non-invasive acupuncture, supplements, laser therapy, and prolotherapy he was acting like a young puppy in little bursts until he got tired or sore lol...

we called him the Mayor, he was the sweetest dog I've ever met, a "teddy bear pitbull". He loved meeting people and dogs, he acted like a little puppy. He was like an old grandpa. He was with us about a year and then he was slowing down...kidney and liver failure, not eating, falling, not wanting to get off his bed...it was time and he was put down. I didn't know they were planning to put him down that week but I knew when I walked him that last day I was with him it was going to be my last chance to say goodbye. When I left work that day as we were leaving he was half on his bed half off, we had to help him onto it. A sad day.

I will never forget him. Even if his chances of being adopted weren't all that high, we tried to make him as healthy and comfortable and happy as possible that extra year of life he had and spent with us.

I love the pit in Homeward Bound that Michael J. Fox lent his voice to.

Wow! I admire you!!! My little boy is 10 months old this month. Love him to death. He has motivated to make strides against breed bans, and other political doggie campaigns. Will post pics this weekend, using a different computer than normal, and don't have any of him in my photobucket to download right now.

This is Scooby. He originally belonged to a friend of mine. My buddy got him as an 8 week old pup and I helped him train him. He ended up giving him to me years later. Ever see "No Country For Old Men"?

That was not a pit, it was an American Bulldog. Similar but different. I have both.

But that's a really bad thing!!!!!

What is?!?!? That I work for LAAS...or that we have 160 pits/staffs. Also...I should point out that I take one out every night and let him/her hang with me...being that I work grave, I can do that!;)

I think she meant that it's sad there are that many in the shelter. I thought the same thing when I read your numbers. Good you're giving them some "me' time.

Your employment with LAAS: good thing
The fact they have 160 Pits/Staffies: BAD THING (as most of them will be killed)
The fact you take one out a night to hang out: AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL! :D

He did his own swimming, and he did it injured too. That dude is pretty bad ***. I stunt doubled him for about a quarter of a second when the dog is jumping at him. I've worked on a couple of movies with him now. His work with Scooby was very memorable to him. We talked about it in the make up trailer during "Jonah Hex". Josh has always been good to me.

Dexter, too! I presume Bullet made his last appearance last night...since the only two people he trusted are now dead?!?!? And did the actor do the hand cue with him or were those close-ups of your hands?

They are such beautiful dogs, and when raised in a home where they are shown love and affection they are AWESOME companions! It burns me up that they've gotten such a bum rap over the years!

Now everytime I see a dog in a movie I'm gonna wonder if it was trained by Tom...

Is he your first? If so, you are going to be hooked on this breed, trust me. I had Bull Terriers yrs ago then an Am Staff came into my life 12yrs ago. He was the love of my life but died of cancer around his 4th b-day. Broke my heart but because of him I will always own a bull breed. I have an American Bull dog, APBT, Boxer/Pit mix and Rat Terrier now. Mia the APBT is the one who got me out of my funk of losing Mikey.
Something that you could do with your boy to advocate the breed is to get him into training then involved with agility, other dog sports or therapy work. People need to see this breed more often in a positive light. While they do have a bad reputation due to irresponsible owners, I'm seeing a positive trend with this breed. People are finally starting to realize that these dogs are not the monsters the media hypes them up to be. At least in my area that is.
My Am Bull visits senior assisted living homes but not Mia. She is a really sweet girl but has an issue with strange dogs in her personal space and is more submissive than I think she should be for therapy work. Recognizing what ones dog is capable of and being real about it is very important to this breed. An owner of this breed should never put their dog in a position where there is even a remote possibility of giving someone a negative association with them.
I'd like to get involve with search and rescue with the next Pit Bull I adopt. What better way to show people how extraordinary they are.
Here are some pictures : Mia - Pit Bull Terrier, 8yrs old.

Amazingly, even when raised in an abusive home, neglected and then dumped .... more often than not they are still loyal and devoted companions. These dogs take so much abuse but will still trust us. It takes years of neglect to sour these dogs to life. Of course owners that condone bad behavior can ruin a dog of any breed. This breed will be anything the owner wants them to be because all they want in life is to please their owner.

Dont have a lot of puppy pics since Mia was my only real puppy. Mikey was 5 mos when I got him but other than those 2 I usually adopt much older dogs. Love puppies but too many good old dogs that need a second chance.
