During this time of year, a lot of toads and other small critters get smashed in the road. Some people don't notice them...and some do, can't be helped.

The crows, buzzard, fox, and raccoons eat them, but so do box turtles.

There are two reasons a box turtle becomes road pizza. 1.) Simply crossing the road. 2.) Taking advantage of an easy meal like these dead frogs and toads, raccoons, squirrels, even deer.

With that in mind, I sometimes scoop up some dead frogs in the road while walking my dogs. If concerned about potential parasites, you can just freeze them a few weeks and unthaw, but I just toss them in and they go to town.
