From about age 6, I was in love with turtles, My Mom always picked them up out of the roads and thats where it came from for me to do it.. Those days we called 3 toed "army turtles" because of the color and the looks of the old Kevlar helmets. I don't ever remember seeing them with the speckled shells and coloration that I do now. I guess will probably never know for certain what this one is. I have seen cross breeding of Ornates and 3 toed in the wild and my daughter had put them all in the same soak tub before and they were mating. Thanks for replying!
The main reason I ask is because I have an animal that looks so very similar. Sold as a 3 Toed. I even inquired afterwards to confirm there wasn't a likelihood of integrades. Was told 100% that it's a 3 toed and excessive coloration and shell speckling is common with the animals from the area(S. Mississippi). The range map shows that Easterns also occur there, but my maps are old from Audubon and Peterson Field Guides...
Also, nice job on lending a helping hand to those animals crossing roads and highways. I usually see them smashed, but then it's snappers, painteds and maps. But I did successfully save a Russian Tortoise this past summer. Crazy dude and now in my care for the last 6 months or so.
and for the record, I have kept 4 that I've picked up out of hundreds that I've moved. Because I'm sure someone is judging me...lol
