awesome that we have human super heros saving our boxies! I always stop for a turtle in the road. I also try to dodge hitting frogs when driving in the rain but that is a very difficult task.

Another to add to the list, A neighbor brought this guy by. She said he was upside down in the middle of the road. She couldn't get him to open up and thought he was dead so I gave him a warm soak and did he ever warm up. Now he won't close up at all. He will be released in the morning.ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1465266148.342619.jpg

Howdy Craig. What makes this fella a hybrid?
I can't be 100% that's what it is, but with the hundreds I've moved from the roads I've never come across a 3toed with that ornate skin coloration on the body. So certainly it's mostly a guess on my part. Could be pure 3 toed, without genetic testing who knows.

Wow, I would love to see that many in the wild, not on the roads. So glad your out there helping them.

I get a lot of middle fingers for stopping traffic and my wife and kids always say I'm going to get run over someday. I will say for all the ones I move it doesn't compare to all the ones I see smashed.

Thanks for replying!

The main reason I ask is because I have an animal that looks so very similar. Sold as a 3 Toed. I even inquired afterwards to confirm there wasn't a likelihood of integrades. Was told 100% that it's a 3 toed and excessive coloration and shell speckling is common with the animals from the area(S. Mississippi). The range map shows that Easterns also occur there, but my maps are old from Audubon and Peterson Field Guides...

Also, nice job on lending a helping hand to those animals crossing roads and highways. I usually see them smashed, but then it's snappers, painteds and maps. But I did successfully save a Russian Tortoise this past summer. Crazy dude and now in my care for the last 6 months or so.
