I don't think you are missing something. You are doing everything you can and no matter the result, no one can say you didn't try. Everyday that goes by that he is eating and acting normal is another day toward him hopefully growing and thriving. Keep your chin up, and keep an eye in your mail for the hay :)

Hello everyone!

I wanted to give a quick update. I weighed Tort for a week every day and I got some unexpected results. I'll attach the image of my results but they are quite promising. He went from 31g up to 36g and is now around 35g. That's so awesome! He hasn't weighed more than 30-32g for a long time. I think he's starting to pull through. Hopefully this week he will put on a couple grams and weigh 37-38g's!

Once you get him eating, look out, I bet he will hit a huge hungry growth spurt!

I certainly hope so. He has been eating mostly outside on the testudo mix. Unfortunately he hardly eats what I give him inside now. Its so strange. In just one week he wants to only eat outside lol dangit.

Also something I've noticed is he hardly touches his water dish. Do you think this could be from me soaking him enough every day he doesn't feel thirsty? I find it odd.

This is normal. Don't worry too much about it.

Is the water dish on the warm side or cool side of the tank? I have one at both ends for Dozer. She never uses the one at the cool end. Only the warm end.

I puy it on the cool side. Tort has used it a couple times now so I guess it's fine. I have just been soaking him every day so he probably hasn't been all that thirsty. Weighed 35/36g today that's good. Keeping the weight on. Maybe soon I'll see 37g. That would be a new high.

Hey quick update. Not much has changed. No weight gain. Still super picky at eating any food. Just lays on the pile of greens for extended periods of times occasionally picking at stuff. Probably trying to find romaine. Also doesn't seem to be eating much of the testudo mix outside anymore. As the plants mature he doesn't like them anymore.
So it's been a full 6 months sense I've gotten him and pretty much no change at all. Really losing hope and also getting tired of the constant babying. I considered getting a different tort but I know that won't help my current one at all. . . :/

Hang in there. I know it's tough. If he pulls through this though, it will be so worth it.

Tortoises change very slowly. As frustrating as it is , they can take a long time to correct an internal problem once we notice it.

It does get frustrating , and time consuming to keep at it when they show little improvement. But can be very rewarding when they do. Patience and consistency is the key.

Myself - I have adopted a couple to try and help. Sometimes they pull through and thrive given the bleakest of hope. Sometimes they don't make it despite all our best efforts. Resigning ourselves to the outcome and acceptance of the way of nature is hard.

I wish you the best of fortune with your little one. No matter how it goes you've done your best. And that is all you can do

Remind us of what temperature range you're keeping your tortoise in?

I'm sure you said it before, but i figured I's ask for an update in case things changed.

I just took this. He's been basking for a couple hours now. I took a temp directly under the MVB with my infrared gun. Its 101 directly under it with damp coir. His shell is currently sitting at 100 as well. On the end where his food is the coir is temping at 85. Inside his log hide it read at 85 as well. It insulates pretty well. Humidity is around 70% currently.

Move the food closer to the basking spot. Mine love to eat there. Not directly under it. I soak them in the AM, then put them in their food right near the heat. They chow down. I know its not the problem, but might encourage him to eat more.

I could try moving it a little closer and see if that helps at all. I know hes hungry because he goes over as soon as I put food in there. But he just stops and is like. Ok lets pick through this for the next 2 hours barely eating lol
