Oh Pearly, I'm so sorry! There's no judgment here.. I've had it happen to me too. I'm one of the unlucky ones that have to prioritize with money and have put the secure outdoor enclosure on hold. I lost Loki a while back.. they hide so darn well in an overgrown garden! I searched for 2 hours straight, first bending over and moving plants around then resorting to crawling desperately on all fours and yanking half the garden out. I forced myself to take a break, called my husband and told him then went back to search. This time I tried to calmly look around. For once, laziness paid off. I saw a path of flattened grass that I never mowed which lead to my broken down shed. I lifted a panel up and of course she gives me this "Crap. Busted." look.

I know that gut wrenching, frantic anxiety that you feel and I'm really hoping you get to see that same look soon.

What about putting out a stack of hot hands bodywarmers wrapped in cloth to make a really warm spot? If you put them inside a little tipped up box it might make a good lure, along with some favorite treats.

Well I was in a similar situation with my Russian yesterday evening, I know that frantic feeling -- I'm so sorry and pray that he will turn up soon. They are so darn fast -- not as much it seems while your looking at them but as soon as you turn your back....

Thanks Guys! Your support means a lot to me. I've been going over places where soil is not compacted and moving that soil around on my hand and knees. I have cut most of the green perennials dow to the ground level to have better visibility, pulled tons of seedlings of sprouting flowers that self saw in that area (was really sad to do that!), put out clay pots in few places with his favorite treats, and made a "nest" of thick bed of cut down vegetation, with 150 + 60 (or is it 75?) watt CHE right above it. ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1454437066.533361.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1454437175.799001.jpgThe red heating bulb is his favorite, he'd always go sit under that one. I got much stronger one for this. It's been windy and this nest has no protection from the top and sides. I suspended the lights on the make shift "scaffolding" (used wooden hinged trellis). I was thinking of The temps are supposed to drop to almost freezing tonight. ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1454437214.302041.jpg and I know, I know! I'm crazy! but there is fresh water and food dish there too which so far have not been touched Any other ideas/suggestions? Gosh! I want him home so bad! And before it gets cold!

Can't imagine what your going through.

Can you put food dishes out all over with cat food on,space them out, but watch for other animals. Then again if its cold, he will be hiding and dug in. Just trying to throw ideas in. Foods that they can't resist.

Can you show us a photo of the entire flower bed. Thats a pretty large flower bed, plenty for him to hide in.

I'm thinking everyone should download those pics and enlarge them and see if anyone might spot a hint of shell, or something that was there in one shot and missing in another

Well, you have a beautiful garden, no wonder he doesn't want to come home. Hopefully he turns up soon! I would look really well along the house as well. My big guy loves to find corners to stuff himself into and the house provides some protection.

Thanks Guys! Here's my Sweet BoyImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1454479269.248415.jpg last picture I took of him. I'm not giving up. I keep looking, asking people, handing out flyers, promised the neighborhood kids reward $$ and pizza party if they find him and bring him to me... Today again spent couple of hrs down on my knees tearing the ground around those flowers... Tonight the temp is supposed to drop to 30's. The lamps are on over that "nest"... Thank you ALL for your support, ideas, thoughts and words of encouragement.

I know!!!!! And I keep going back there and looking down, on all 4's... My neighbors probably think I'm crazy. Something in my gut tells me to look there! But, maybe that's just denial?...

Am I the only one that thinks he is still inside that planter?

No, I think he's in there too. I have several viola plants in my baby YF indoor habitat and the baby digs down next to the plant and almost disappears in the roots. I'm willing to bet that pretty little RF tortoise is in there dug down under a plant.
