I was poking around some local "for sale" sites on Face book and found this HUGE Igloo dog house for $35! It's obscene, it's so big...

I have been mentally making plans for an large outdoor oasis for Tuleo, he has a perfect one for now but I am mentally planning his "REAL" one for when he grows up (if that makes sense.) I was thinking of putting an Igloo dog house (sinking it a bit so there is not lip) in one corner and low and behold - I find this.

Of course now that I have scrubbed it with bleach and cleaned it within an inch of it's life I have decided against it and have this huge, monster dog house in my garage.

My husband thinks I am nuts.

I just might hafta agree...

And yes. Do you spot Tuleo in this picture? I mean, com'on Dawn. Does he REALLY need this?? NOW?!

(And I just want to go on record that it is IMPOSSIBLE to find Sulcata garden flags or yard art for an oasis. This does not bode well with me. One bit.) :tort:goofy.jpg

I had a rescue last winter a big sulcata about a 50 lber LOL. He slept in an igloo like that or very similar to it. Here's a pic...

** It worked in a pinch.

No problem. My wife is also nuts! I also use a very large dog house. I've hinged it so that i can open the top for maintenance and to replace the hay inside. I covered about 50% of the opening with a rubber flap to keep out drafts and rain.

Mine took me as a full time exotics breeder! 16 years ago. Lol. At this point he's relieved. But yeah... I do tend to go a bit nuts at times. He doesn't like it when he has to help! But he still does. Lol.

Oh, don't get me wrong! I think the Igloo idea is FAB but do I need a 500lb dog house for a 5" tortoise ? LOL ESPECIALLY given the fact that when we move in two years it will be out of state. With a Great Dane, German Shepherd, Terrier mix (all our dogs are rescues) as well as two cats, a betta fish, cockatiel, ferret, chickens, and Tuleo. Oh, and the kids. And this honker huge dog house that serves no purpose just yet. :)

My tortoises came before the current husband, so he was use to it being part of my life. He is in favor of it and helps in any way he can be it helping build enclosures, to picking them up for me on his travels (he is a semi driver). My children have had them around for most of their lives. None of them are big turtle/tortoise people, but they kinda understand all the reasons I have them.

My husband before the current one was jealous of them and it created lots of problems.... one reason he is now an ex.;)

Tank'sMom - all our dogs are inside dogs! They have no use for it.

Mine doesn't think I'm nuts, she thinks I go overboard on everything I take on. I tell her anything worth doing is worth doing right.

Haha!! I love this post!

I saw a sign the other day that said "my biggest fear when I die is that my husband will sell all of my horse tack and saddles for what I TOLD him I paid for it".......I immediately thought the same about my tortoises
