Hello Natrah - it has been my half-birthday and my dad's birthday today - we didn't do anything special, as it was really cold and windy - I looked at the sea, of course - I don't think I have ever seen bigger waves ! My dad cooked a special meal tonight for him and Angie - roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, and birthday cake afterwards (that was from a shop) My mum is having a lot of trouble with her headaches - she has an appointment next week, at last - a month later than it should be, but she says perhaps it's due to Christmas, or the nurses being ill.
I'm sorry about your dad's uncles -Richard's dad was in a prisoner of war camp - Arnhem - and he was a different person when he finally came back.
Love to you, Jacky, Angel Daisy, and all our forum friends from Zola xxxxxxxxxx and Angie xxxxxxxxx

Good evening everyone!

I'm okay Sue and I sent a card to my cousin's wife today. I hope everyone's okay. The weather was better today but we have a flood alert and I imagine that this is for Canvey Island because where I live is too high up anyway. Anyway I've had four new pupils start this term and today I found that my colleague is leaving so the principal of Allegro Music Academy asked whether I would like to have his pupils which is good but it means me giving up Saturday afternoon permanently and I didn't think I could do that because that's when I catch up with myself, do housework or sed friends. Therefore I said no but I did suggest my free slots during the week.

I've been watching the news about the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz but I have been thinking of dad's two uncles that he lost on the Burmese Railway. One passed away whilst working on the railway and another passed away a year after liberation. There were camps all over East Malaysia that were very remote making liberation difficult.

Anyway I bet Zola was pleased with his excursions!

Goodnight everyone

I remember watching the film A Town Called Alice & it stayed with me for a long time. I can’t watch the Auschwitz memorial or any service memorial because it doesn’t feel like we humans have really learnt any lessons from the past which fills me with a lot of sadness & at times dread for the future of everything.
On a happier note HAPPY BIRTHDAY & HALF BIRTHDAY to Richard & Zola 🎂 🍀 wishing you all small parcels of happiness!
We checked on Dickie tonight & she is still fast asleep but did move her front leg when touched so we know she’s alive 🙏🏻

Hello Natrah -the weather has been pretty bad here - the wind noise kept my mum awake most of the night, and when we went to the sea it was so rough that my dad could hardly walk with me ! Anyway, we survived, and I think things won't be quite as bad tomorrow. I hope it has been all right in Southend.

Good evening everyone!

Angie I hope you have a better night tonight. Sue how is it where you are and Edward how are you? I managed to get to town and do some shopping but otherwise the weather has been awful. It has rained for most of the day although we did have some sunny spells.

I hope it's better tomorrow

Goodnight everyone

Good morning Natrah
It’s been a bit windy & wet here. I haven’t been out since last week so it doesn’t affect me. Going to work today & the dreaded dentist tomorrow 😖

Dear Sue,

Good luck at the dentist and you've just reminded me to fill in the claim forms for my last appointments. Beautiful day here but they say tonight will be cold. What work do you do? Will Pete see Sherman today?

I was at the dentist today to get the filling. The local anesthetic hasn't still worn off.

The weather is miserable here too, but not dangerous. Just a little slippery. We currently have about 20 cm snow, but I don't know how it will last with the amount of rain we are having.

I still have a private cleaning job that I go to weekly for about 3hrs but otherwise I am retired although still kept busy with other things ☺️
Pete generally goes to the sanctuary on Saturdays but he does sometimes go in on other days if there’s a job he wants to finish. He’s been fixing a net covering over the hens who have to be confined (government orders) due to the threat of bird flu. The strong winds recently have done some damage & collapsed part of the frame so he went on Monday to help another person finish the job.
He didn’t see Sherman. He’s going to be in his shed for the forseable future. I do wonder if he gets bored being on his own. The other small torts are kept awake. There are 5 of varying sizes all living together & seem able to cope being in company. They are in the back room of the charity’s house through the winter with their lamps.
My patch filling has come off again so more expense. My dentist has gone private & i had to choose which level of care i wanted. My contract doesn’t cover fillings or extractions or any of the really expensive treatment but I do get 2 X-rays & 2 checkups & aircleans each year for £20 pm. Probably works out about equal I reckon

I get most of my dental work from the Finnish Student health service, which provides healthcare services to students at Finnish universities. I have to pay a mandatory health care fee for it, whether I use the service or not. That fee is about 60 € per year. They don't provide orthodontics though, for that I have to use the services provided by my well-being service county. Those cost about 20 € per visit plus any extra fees (medications, equipment etc.). For example, it costed me 90 € to get my wisdom tooth out.

Here in Finland the dental services provided by the well-being service county are free for all children under 18 years old, which is why I used to go there for everything dental related. The private dental care fees here in Finland are crazy and not covered by my insurance, which is why I use the public services.

Hello Natrah and everyone. It was really sunny today, with bright blue skies and small fluffy clouds, so we went off for a drive around a part of North Devon which we haven't been to much - and it was lovely ! It was relatively flat, compared with a lot of Devon, but with long views! Richard didn't take his camera, but we will go again fairly soon, I think - when the trees are in leaf. We did see some daffodils by the road, and some little crocus flowers too. Zola spent most of his time on my lap asleep, but he enjoys being in the car - probably listening to my tummy making gurgling noises,as well as the engine.
Saturday is the anniversary of Richard being attacked and nearly killed in London - many years ago now. He has recovered really well, though there is a dent in his skull and a scar. He had several epileptic fits when I was looking after him, but I didn't panic, as I had taught children who were epileptic so I knew what was happening.( He came off the anti-epileptic drugs eventually, and is fine. )

Good evening everyone,

Angie you're so lucky to have such beautiful countryside in Devon. I remember our holidays in Ilfracombe, Brixham, Honiton. I can remember visiting Ashclyst Forest, Buddleigh Salterton, Bovey Tracey and doing butterfly counts. It's been a beautiful day here but cold the shop have asked whether I would be able to do more hours on Monday which is better than me giving my entire Saturday otherwise I would have no time to myself. Sue and Edward are your teeth feeling better now and Angie I hope your headaches are better. I know it was on long time ago but I hope Richard's okay on Saturday.

Goodnight everyone

Angie that was a truly awful thing to happen to Richard for no apparent reason. Am I right in thinking that the police never caught the culprit(s)? The only good thing to come out of it is that it brought you two together plus of course that he has managed to recover from his injuries with your loving care & attention.
Natrah I had my patch filling replaced free of charge as it had only been done 3 months ago. My next appointment is May ( I go for a scale & polish in between my checkup appointments which is not part of my contract) but if it comes off again by then i will need to pay for the cost of the filling.
I don’t like the aircleans as my teeth are very sensitive so I need to have an injection to numb the top left row of teeth that are the most sensitive. So that’s all done now for another 6 months!

No, the police never caught the thugs who nearly killed Richard, though they had a good idea who they were. They didn't steal anything, as he didn't have anything on him worth stealing - not his guitar, thank goodness. He had been living in France for a while, and had a French beret on - when he was found, his beret was beside him, soaked in blood - he thinks it probably saved his life, by protecting his head a bit. I still have the beret - it is almost like a sacred relic ! It is most likely true that we would have never got together permanently if it hadn't happened - it changed both our lives - and in what was then,of course, the far distant future, it led to us discovering Zola, who wouldn't have been the tortoise he is if someone else had brought him up !

Good evening everyone!

Ouch Sue that makes my blood run cold. Have you tried Sensodyne toothpaste? It can be very soothing for sensitive teeth. Angie please could you remind us how you came to own Zola. The parents of my Friday pupils had to cancel so I've had a day off. I've just done my ordinary shopping and some admin but otherwise it's been very cold although I did phone my friend who lost her husband. She sounds okay and she is recovering very well from COVID.

The weather's been cold and miserable today but tomorrow I am looking forward to another friend finally getting to celebrate her 60th birthday. We are going to a Turkish restaurant and after enjoying Turkish cuisine when I was on holiday in Turkey many years ago I am looking forward to this.

Goodnight everyone

Natrah, Sleeping Beauty and Angel Daisy

PS: @Chefdenoel10 you've been very quiet are you okay?
