Dear Natrah - today we went to get some more radicchio for me - it was a lovely sunny day, so we went to Barnstaple by the most scenic route - and the views were amazing - as were the wild flowers everywhere - one of the best years my parents could remember for scenery ! The only not so good thing was that there was a "Road Closed" notice on the way, which led my dad into a lot of extra driving along very narrow roads with few passing places - and there was no sign of any road repairs being done anywhere - or any road workers either ! We got to the radicchio place luckily just before it closed at 1pm (they start work ar 5am)!
Then I went for a short walk on the breakwater - a bit later than usual, but the weather may be bad tomorrow,and my dad thought I deserved it, because I had been very good on my mum's lap in the car !
I hoe your hay fever isn't bothering you a lot, Natrah.

The rest of this email is written on behalf of Jacky who has gone to bed. She was very pleased to hear about Dickie and Sherman and she hopes that Edward, Squirt and Sally are okay:

I went out twice today but Natrah brought me in for lunch because she thought I looked cold. I had some lunch in my enclosure before going out again. This time I was able to enjoy a stroll around the garden. Whilst I was outside this morning Natrah was doing the ironing and trying to British Gas on the phone.

She decided to try and do the ironing whilst talking to them because she thought they would keep her waiting. They kept her waiting for over an hour!!! Anyway when she finally got through to them she told them that on the 24th May she received a letter saying that her account for pre-payment electricity smart meter had been 'updated' and her card for the meter would be obsolete on the 20th May. The promised new card still hasn't arrived and the 26th May Natrah needed to top-up the meter and so she tried her luck with the old card! It was accepted in the newsagent but it wasn't showing on the meter. She managed to get her £20 back and told British Gas how to run a business!

Jacky forgot to mention that the operator on the phone spoke so quickly that I had trouble trying to understand. I think he has been trained to speak quickly in order to speed up the phone call!

Yes I have that problem. People, usually young sounding, talk way too quickly for me & with an accent to contend with too I have to keep asking them to repeat themselves. I’m glad I don’t have to deal with British Gas anymore. Hope you can get the prepayment meter sorted out. It’s so annoying.

As you are both familiar with my hometown I have attached a link to a report in our local paper about an arson attack Saturday. Thankfully no one was killed or injured & all animals in the shop next door safely evacuated.
Just kids with nothing better to do than endanger life & enjoy the excitement of the emergency services response. Arson isn’t enough of a charge

Dear Natrah - it has been quite cold today, and fairly rainy , but Zola managed a walk on the breakwater, even so. And a long stroking session with his mum. A huge number of people locally have met him over the years - and of course a lot of tourists too - they all seem really pleased to meet him again, and often greet him by name. I am glad he chose a memorable name when we first had him - the pet shop owner had called him "Bobby V ", after a singer,, because his shell had a V shaped split in it, by his head !

Hello again, Natrah -my dad has been taking a few photos of my garden - especially the Night Sky plants, which we all love.

One side of my conservatory has a huge rose bush outside the window - it more or less fills the large window with small white roses - a hundred or more - it is so pretty, and I can watch the bees buzzing all over it withoout getting any of them in my room !

What lovely photos of you all ! It has been quite cold today, so Zola didn't get a walk - also his dad has been busy planting up the rest of the little seedlings he had grown. I haven't been feeling too great - even more shaky than usual, which is a nuisance ! I have a lot of things I need to do,but sometimes it is just so difficult. Anyway, one nice thing which has happened is that Richard has managed to get this lovely photo of the baby swallows - all 5 of them alert and with eyes open -we were a bit worried that one or two of them might have died as they hadn't put their heads up properly. It won't be long before they are flying round in the carport - which is actually ideal for practising flying, being covered and having lots of places they can perch and rest.

Angie I've got a mental image of where you live surrounded by beautiful scenery, a cottage with a beautiful garden and cute swallows not to mention the robin. Jacky didn't go out today either as it was very autumnal although we need the rain. According to the forecast she won't be going tomorrow or Saturday either. I have ordered more carpet strips for which she can either use in the enclosure or when I have to leave her in the bathroom these are especially for animals. I have also researched the ingredients of the supplement recommended by the vet and there are a few ingredients that tortoises shouldn't have so I'm going to enquire at my local exotics shop. I have full confidence in this shop as the shop owner has a pair of Aldabras.

I hope you feel better soon Angie and I hope you're not coming down with something. I bet Zola had a long stroke today.

Angie I've got a mental image of where you live surrounded by beautiful scenery, a cottage with a beautiful garden and cute swallows not to mention the robin. Jacky didn't go out today either as it was very autumnal although we need the rain. According to the forecast she won't be going tomorrow or Saturday either. I have ordered more carpet strips for which she can either use in the enclosure or when I have to leave her in the bathroom these are especially for animals. I wonder if Jacky would benefit from softer bedding in her enclosure like Coco coir due to her arthritis. It would be messier of course.

Dear Natrah - I hope all goes really well with your concert - I'm sure it will, actually. Some of what you imagine about where I live is true -mainly the beautiful scenery nearby- however, the garden would be considered by many people to be a mess, and I would be embarrased if you saw the inside of the house, as it has gradually got more and more scruffy and untidy over the years - especially as it is so physically difficult for me to do things. I am not a tidy person at the best of times !
Still, it suits us - and Zola is happy, which is the most important thing of all.

Thankyou for getting me to think about and I will look into it. She will be going into the Pet Carrier at night which contains a softer waterproof mat. We are expecting higher temperatures at the end of the week and there would be no need for Jacky to be in the enclosure at night.

I bought mine in bricks which had to be re-hydrated according to the instructions on the packaging before they turned in to this substance somewhere in between soil and coffee powder in texture. It is sold both for plants and animals, but the ones for plants tend to be cheaper. Just make sure it doesn't have any additives like fertilizers or pesticides.

I packed it down with a shovel and keep the bottom moist. It is less messy when moist and can be dusty and messy when too dry. It is very soft for Edward to walk on. Edward has to spend a lot of time indoors, I counted that he spend 40 days in his outdoor enclosure last year.

I have helped Natrah out by bulldozing some of the thistles. Her concert was very good but she ended up with an extra muscle after a 3 hour and 15 mins rehearsal followed by a 2 hour and 15 mins concert.


I am very particular about my housework but Zola I am not saying anything about the rest of the flat!

Dear Natrah - today my dad definitely saw a baby robin on one of our bird feeders - we are very pleased about that, as there are probably more around too. The adult robin who comes to feed from Richard's hand is around a lot - if he sees him, he expects him to drop whatever he might be doing, and bring out the mealworms.He has my dad well trained ! This is a photo of a baby from a previous year - already with that determined "Feed me NOW" !!! sort of expression.
The swallows are doing well, we think - judging by the volume of presents scattered over our car when Richard forgot to cover it last night, they are obviously getting very well fed by their devoted parents !
I am glad your concert went well, Natrah - it must be exhausting - but uplifting to play in an orchestra, too, I should think.
