white on the side is cooked egg, green on the other is cactus , rest is radicchio and escarole or endive lettuce, the yellow stuff over the chopped stuff is baby food (squash with pear I think)
ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452604358.422748.jpg
ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452604446.212347.jpg and here the brown tacky looking stuff is Mazuri, here I was trying the colorful stuff out. Now they get one or the other (mazuri or the "flakes")ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452604575.645071.jpg I always put out fresh whole leaves of different stuff here is endive, radicchio and or course cuttlebone
ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452604714.542556.jpg here I was trying to figure out what they like the best putting things in separate piles. I did that a lot at the beginning and watched them eat. They have very different preferences. ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452604999.101446.jpgtypical breakfast
ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452605093.730904.jpg here I tried to mix everything up with little mazuri, little radicchio, grated carrot
ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452605380.822517.jpg my babies go to their water dish all the timeImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452605878.236796.jpg here with little bell pepper and crunchy treat of few freeze dried mealworms plus sprinkle of colorful "flakes"
ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452606107.504570.jpg steamed fish with mashed pellets and prickly pear fruit
ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452606233.188254.jpggot these earthworms for food but my babies have nor been interested so the worms live in the substrate now
I hope that helps you a little. It took me a while to gain some confidence, but I'm totally new to keeping reptiles. Oh, and btw, I don't feed mine pinkies. I know I'm being hypocritical but I can only handle meet that's sliced and already packaged in little trays.
I know, should have been vegetarian...

Just plain lettuce or spinach count as weeds?
No, dandellions, plantains (narrow or broadleaf), etc. WEEDS-weeds type of plants, just be sure you get them fron area that hasn't been rreated with chemicals. I've never seen plantain grow in this part of Texas (too hot for it? maybe?) but there are tons of others, just study the edible plant listImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452609291.988670.jpg I always plant seeds in their habitat. They love to munch on them. ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452609447.078227.jpg this is how finely chopped things used to have to be to get him to eat. That day was spinach day. They also love fresh edible flowers. ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452609593.901829.jpg this is prickly pear cactus fruit, it's very soft inside when ripe so I just put slice of it cut in hafl and they have fun getting all messy red. ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452609728.837072.jpg cantaloupe and fresh edible flowers ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452609830.053931.jpg here is the usual greens with some Mazuri and little bunch of sprouted baby greens that I buy when available (like broccoli sprouts or oat grass etc)ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452610088.566074.jpg here's our little "girl going for a drink. @Pearly that looks AWESOME!!! I swear your salads look like something out of a fine dining magazine. People in New York City or Chicago would pay big bucks for that stuff!!!

@Davidson how is it coming along for you? It seems/is overwhelming at first, but once you get everything set and right, it becomes more fun and enjoyable. For some easy planting in your enclosure, just go to the hardware store and buy a small bag of grass seed (just make sure it is not coated or treated with anything) bury it in the substrate and water daily. Should sprout in a few days, then your tort can munch on it, hide in it, trample it, and you can just plant more when it is gone!

ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452612310.342483.jpghere she is after her bath and monthly coconut oil massage just the other day
ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452612379.197722.jpg here she is with her little marbling cherryhead "brother"-Tucker
ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452612446.785590.jpghere is her cute belly. She loves being handled and have her fleshy parts touched. I make a point of doing that a lot just to have them used to human touch so that if there's ever a problem (sick/injury) they don't freak out if I have to take a closer look at something or clean it or put medicine on.
ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452612592.983890.jpg and this is our Tucker boy
ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1452612620.836524.jpgand his belly. He's a lot more skid dish than Shelly but is getting much better (no longer tucks his head in when I try to touch it) letting me pet his head and under the chin. We's working now on "hands, shoulders, feet and toes"

Thank you! I've only been doing this since June of last year, so there are still lost of questions but the stuff that I have got down I want to share with the others who -I know- are painstakingly looking for answers/advise.
It is frustrating bus all of us want this same thing: do give best care to our pets, but pet stores are more hindrance than help, good vets are few and far in between and info on the net is over abundant and many times conflicting.
We are lucky to have found thin forum.
Davidson, you are off to great start. Ask questions, post pictures, make friends here and mostly- enjoy your wonderful hobby because that's what it's about. Getting joy out of our hard work:)

This is "littlefoot" . kids pick the names:rolleyes:
Coming up for 20 months old.
By far the smallest of the 3 I have.
Very pretty! And I'm probably little partial to splits/extra scutes. I think it just makes them special. My daughter named her torts too. Those are her very first OWN pets. Yeah, right! Own! Mom had no idea how involved this reptile thing was gonna be and finds herself probably busier researching than the "torts' Mom". But that's ok. They will be in our family for very ling time so I may as well get to know the reptile husbandry. I have twin boys who are just 8. It won't be long before they start asking for a pet. Knowing them they may want a lizard or something like that. Then, all of my know-how will come very handy in supervising the boys:)

Yeah right, when your daughter flies the nest one day we will see who gets the torts. Lol.
Look at panther chameleons for boys. Very interesting, when I was in Malta on hols we kept finding wild chameleons(not panther). Amazing reptiles.

Holy crap what a setup! How big are your babies? That's a lot of food. Could you post a shot of the entire enclosure?
