Hi guys, this is my Russian named Ned. I got him from a lovely family on Craigslist who got him from petco. He's a male and he's six years old. I'm worried about his shell, he has white lines along the bottom of his shell and the black part is fading. Is that normal? He feels normal and everything is still firm. It doesn't peel off at all when I scratch it.

Hello, and welcome to the forum! I am not sure about the shell, but your enclosure needs some work. Please read this-
Russian Tortoise Care Sheet

Adult Russian tortoises need a minimum enclosure space of 4x8 feet, and an enclosure full of substrate. What kind of uv light are you using? If it is a coil or compact bulb, turn it off. Those are known to cause eye issues, and aren’t very effective.
