Good Morning Natrah, Angie, Cathy, & MoggyMad.
I've Been very Busy, with the rain's that have arrived, Keeping the yard looking halfway decent is tough, raking leaves on the somewhat dry days, and Filling rain barrels on the wet days.
I'm sure I told you, friends, Of my Accident with my Taco, Well I have since Purchased a new F-150 XLT Lightning (Battery Electric Vehicle)(Very quiet). With the 20k that insurance paid me for my Taco, and a boatload of $$,$$$ out of my savings I I'm driving a new truck, that has a 650 Page owners/operating manual. So, Learning of it's capabilities is keeping me busy also.
My PeeWee Has Been in his DogLoo for a couple of weeks (That heating pad is too warm to come off of), I poke his foot occasionally to let him know . . I'm still here and to make sure he's OK. Seymour gets up at all ours of the day, and is still eating regularly. Bump the Boxie, is kinda buried in the tort tub, and Junior the Russian is also still roaming periodically & eating. Every one is still getting soaks, and their weights taken & documented.
My Chickens have started to Lay again, after 2.5 to 3 Month hiatus. They are only laying onsies, twosies, and sometimes none, But the end of last year, I actually had to buy 3 dozen egg's for the first time in 20 years...
The end of 2023 was very "Crappy" for me. The Ex GF with cancer is doing well, her cancer antigen level is down to 13 from a high of 555, her oncologist has pushed off her last treatment for two weeks so far, not quite sure why, but she is in the know and has done a great job so far. My Ex's room mate had fallen and broke her hip, and was in a "skilled Nursing Facility" (I use the term lightly) had been doing a slow spiral downward, and at Christmas Time was put on a ventilator. It was determined that her lungs were so damaged that she could not breath on her own, and the adopted daughter flew in from Denver to care for her mom. She decided, along with her Mom's wishes to remove the ventilator, and I stood vigil with her New Years day Night while they removed the ventilator, and slowly watched my friend pass. May God Bless her Soul. I'm still dealing with all these emotions, and I could NOT let the Daughter go through that alone...
Anyway, to some extent . . life goes on...personally I'm not afraid of dying, I'm Catholic & Pray that all the teaching I have been reading & somewhat believing are true. It's the leaving . . . . that I'm afraid of...
Wish you all a wonderful 2024, after having 3 close friends die in 2023, I'm hoping mine will be better too.
Much love to my Tortle friends & their Tortoise kids........🥰:tort:

BTW, I have not been getting very many notification of new posts to this thread, which is partially why I have not been here very much....

Dear Marsha -I'm so sorry about all the bad and sad things that you have been going through - it's rotten to have so much piled on you all at once, but I hope all the rest of this year will be much much happier. At least, when all else fails, you have your animals to keep you going. I know when I see Zola's anxious little face peering up at me, that I am extremely lucky.
With all best wishes from Angie

Good evening everyone!

I've been quite busy since going back to work after Xmas which is why I am late today. Zola I know you'll be in bed now but I always say goodnight to you and I always imagine you looking at the sea or having a cuddle with your mum by the fire. I'm glad that she was feeling better after the injections but how was her class today? Also I remember that pheasant and that is a beautiful photo.

Marsha I'm glad you found the thread after it mysteriously disappeared at the New Year. Someone put it in archive and so I've had to start a new thread! I am so sorry to hear about your friend and I hope that 2024 is better for you. I'm thinking of your former partner as well and I wish her well.

I know how you feel about your pets. Jacky and Daisy have seen me through some very difficult times and Jacky has helped me deal with Daisy's death. I like to see more pictures of your pets and @Cathie G I wish I had seen a picture of Sapphire dangling by his front paws.

Jacky is hibernating in the fridge and I open the door every day for thirty seconds and also to change the water bowls. I also keep jaws of condiments in there like @Tom does with his tortoises. I have touched Jacky's paw which I probably shouldn't do but at least I know she's okay.

Goodnight everyone

Natrah, Sleeping Beauty and Angel Daisy

PS: My violin pupil who was unable to have her lesson before Xmas gave me a present today. She gave me an orchid and some moisturiser:IMG20240111212924.jpg

Good evening everyone!

Marsha I hope you're okay I have been thinking about you and your friends. Angie, Sue, CathieG, Erin and Amanda I hope you're all okay. Zola did you see the sea today. It's been pretty dull here but on the way back from Rayleigh you can see the River Thames. Anyway it was dark when I was on my home except that I noticed the Waverley Paddlesteamer heading to London and it was all lit up. It's lights were beautiful and it really was something to look at in the dark!

Goodnight everyone

Dear Natrah - my mum went to her balance class today, even though she is still feeling shaky from her injections on Tuesday, and she was quite pleased by how well she managed - but she is very wobbly again now !
You mentioned Clarence the pheasant - we met him first when he appeared in our front garden years ago, and he looked very unhappy, with an injured leg, and his lovely feathers damaged. He accepted some food, but very cautiously, and then he managed to get up the steep grass bank at the side of the lawn, and crept under the bushes there - and he stayed there for days. My mum would stand by the bank and throw food up to him lots of times every day, and he gradually got better - stronger and braver, and finally came down from his bush to the ground feeder we put out every day. He would come close to my mum, because she had protected him, and would follow her about. She was watching him from a distance one day, when there was a very loud noise outside the garden, and he squawked and flew right to my mum to save him ! She felt very honoured that he trusted her that much.
Eventually, after a couple of years, we didn't see him again, and my mum misses him still.
I did see the sea today, but it was very cold again, and I just put my head out of my dad's coat to look.
How lovely for you to see the paddle steamer with all it's lights !
Goodnight and love to you, Jacky and Angel Daisy, and all my friends from Zola xxxxxx

Good evening everyone!

I've just finished watching Countryfile. Did anyone else watch it? It ended with a section on Cornwall and I couldn't help but think of Zola and his parents. It showed Bude and the sea (Zola and his dad go to see the sea). It showed the water lapping the rocks and it was reasonably calm.

I walked along the cliffs and the tide was in and the water was calm but the Waverley Paddlesteamer was not there. I wanted to have lunch at the Cliffs Pavilion but their fridge was broken so I ended up in the Wimpy.

Yesterday I was in Leigh where I used to live and I lunch at Gemma's Kitchen. I had an omelette followed by Banoffi Cake but anyway I was in Leigh to buy a birthday present for my friend Fiona. I bought a CD of Erik Satie but I also the CD below because it contains tortoise music. It is also narrated by Johnny Morris. Does anyone remember him?

I hope Angie is okay Zola and that you are both by the fire.

Goodnight everyone

Bude is a nice place - pretty, but not too fancy. I suppose you didn't catch a sight of Zola and his dad going down the road or on the cliffs ?
Zola and I had a very good stroke by the fire this evening - he hasn't been going out on the breakwater recently, because it's too cold, of course, and he misses it - so the stroking is a bit of a compensation.
Goodnight, dear Natrah, to you ,Jacky and Angel Daisy, and love to you and all our friends from Angie and Zola xxxxx

Hello Natrah
All ok here. Have been reading but haven’t posted as nothing much going on.
Hoping we don’t get snow this week, looks like it’s going to be very cold.
Thankfully we no longer have to go & clean out the Guinea pigs as the lady has come to the realisation that she can no longer carry on with her hutched outside animals & they have been temporarily/permanently rehomed to her daughter & grandson. I admit it’s a big relief as I was finding it too cold to do especially during the wet weather & those storms & the worst of winter still to come. I’d feel happier if they were indoors though especially with the drop in temperatures this coming week.
I think I could happily hibernate 😁

Good evening everyone!

I'm afraid I didn't catch sight of Zola and his dad watching the sea Angie but I would love to have seen them. Did you all see the sea today? It's been a sparkling winter's day here but very cold. Sue have you had any snow as the forecast made it look as though it was coming your way

I've had quite a good day with two new pupils one adult and one very bright ten year old. They both made good starts so let's see how they get on. Also I looked at Jacky today and she has retreated slightly into her shell so she's okay. I am aware I am going to have to gradually bring Jacky out of hibernation by at least mid-March so please could you let me know when Dickie wakes up please Sue.

Goodnight everyone

Hello Natrah - I had a slightly strange day, as my mum had to see the dentist urgently, and my dad to have his yearly medical check-up, both at the same time. So they left me in my bed until much later than usual, and I went out with them in the afternoon - it was very very cold - the sea was a lovely blue, though !
Which instrument are your pupils learning?
Goodnight and love from Zola and Angie to Jacky, Angel Daisy, and you, Natrah, and to all my other tortoise friends xxxxxxxxx

No snow yet but it’s certainly cold enough.
I will let you know when Dickie starts to stir. She is tucked under all the straw right now & doesn’t seem to have moved position at all.

Hello Natrah and everyone. Today it was sunny and the roads not too icy, so we all went to Barnstaple to get some radicchio - my dad phoned first, as it is about an hour's drive. It was very sunny, and the road was really pretty with the shadows of the tree branches across it and the bright green fields on either side. My mum saw a few snowdrops , but there were no lambs about - probably too cold for them to be outside - just some sheep and horses. The owner of the big warehouse likes to see me, and he took us to the radicchio storage room - there were 70 or so there, and he chose some particularly nice ones for me ! I would have been happy to stay there for a few weeks, but my mum said it would be too cold for me ! Then we came back - not so nice this time, as the sun was more in our eyes - but I went to sleep on my mum's lap, so itit didn't bother me !

This evening I have had a nice stroke with my mum by the fire, and I will watch tv with her and my dad, and then go to my sleeping box in the fire room, which will still be warm.
I hope you are all warm too.
Goodnight and love to Natrah, Jacky and Angel Daisy, and to all my friends

Good evening everyone!

Zola it is lovely to see that you all got out but how is your mum's tooth. What was wrong with her tooth and will she have to go back to the dentist? Have you started munching the Radicchio?

We didn't have any snow here either but it has been very cold and I keep turning the heating on and off. Sue did you have any snow today? It is -30 degrees Celsius in Iowa! Anyway I am to get Jacky out of hibernation at her usual time of Easter but I needed to get her out of the fridge first. The vet said that I should aim to do this at the end of January and I need to do it gradually. Therefore at this I will need to watch the forecast before I start to gradually raise the temperature in the fridge.

How is Sherman and when is Pete going to work on the pond?

Goodnight everyone

Hello Natrah - just a little note to explain that a bit of one of my teeth had cracked slightly, and I was anxious to get it fixed before it got worse. Our dentist is really nice - we have known her for years - and she fitted me in for an emergency appointment. She said if I could manage without an injection that she could do it at once, so that's what we did. It wasn't very pleasant, but it was soon over, and the tooth should be ok for a good while. I have a real fear of having to have false teeth.!!
Zola is tucked up in his sleeping box - I think he is tired after an eventful day.
Sleep well
Love from Angie xxxx

No snow just ice. Even George isn’t staying outside long.
Yes I will let you know when Dickie stirs. The earliest it’s been is mid feb but that was because it turned mild. The normal time is end feb/early march. She stays indoors then until it’s warm enough for her to go outside for a little while.
Not sure where indoors she can be this time as we haven’t got the floor space for her to wander in the kitchen which is what she’s been used to. Petes talking about putting her in a dog crate which will probably have to be in the lounge. Its going to be try it & see.
Pete hasn’t seen Sherman. The gate hasn’t been mentioned for a while as the wildlife unit is taking priority. They also want some work doing in the indoor tortoise enclosure. Indoor work is better than outside at the moment!

Hello Natrah and everyone - there was an article in the paper today, about seven Aldabra tortoises found dead in a National Trust area near Exeter in Devon ! No-one seems to know where they came from or what happened ! I think it is likely that someone had them as pets, and they died from the cold - I will watch out for further news about them. It's very sad, anyway.
It's really cold here, but so far no snow. Richard feeds the birds twice a day, and they are all waiting for him in the morning.
