Oh Zola happy Halloween!
Where are you all going? I hope you all enjoy yourselves. I'm afraid Jacky hasn't emerged today and I did touch her foot which moved. However I must stop doing this because she must hibernate properly. How's Dickie is she still coming out of her box Sue?

She hasn’t been out for a few days but today i could hear her moving about a bit so she isn’t asleep yet.
The forecast is getting a little bit colder over the next few days so that will help.

Here is Zola on his way to join his friends for a Halloween party ! He took off from the special place where he goes to look at the waves with his dad, but who knows where he will end up!

Good evening everyone!
Zola aren't you taking your mum and dad with you. Just checked on Jacky and she seems to be okay. I have a few pupils tomorrow and I have been watching what I eat but I thought I could treat myself to some tomorrow as it's Halloween. It's my brother's birthday on Monday and of course when we children we were taken to firework displays or dad would set them up in our garden but it wasn't until he was older that my brother said he was afraid of fireworks!

She hasn’t come out today or moved about. Pete touched her & she moved her leg. He reckons because it’s starting to get a bit colder she will go into hibernation properly so we’ll give her a few more days before moving her to the hibernation box.

Still asleep but I touched her leg which so I'm giving her until the weekend before I assume that she is hibernating.

I hope you're all enjoying Halloween and I would be interested to see where Zola is anyway I enjoyed Pumpkin Soup followed by Pistachio Cake for lunch. Sue has Dickie emerged today?
Jacky is still sleeping and I was concerned that she had only been fasting for just over two weeks before hibernation eventhough I had been reducing her food before her fast. Therefore I emailed the vets and they replied saying that two weeks fasting is within the guidelines although they would have liked the hibernation process to be more gradual. They also said: "however Jacky has other ideas by bringing the hibernation process forward
!" The vet says that it is best to leave her as she is before fridge hibernation. They also recommend weighing during hibernation but this is not something I have ever done during hibernation and @Tom is the same.
Jacky says: "I am 89 and I shall do as I please!"

I did read that the larger the tortoise the longer the fasting should be before hibernation. She may well wake again as Dickie has done several times.
I’m not knowledgeable enough to advise but if you are concerned I assume you could try waking her up & keeping her awake for another couple of weeks?
Let me know how things go

Dear Natrah and everyone - Zola mentioned that we were going to get some radicchio on Tuesday- well, it took two days and about 170 miles driving to get it ! We set off on Tuesday morning, and found that the usual road we take was closed for re-surfacing, so we had to go a much longer way - along the coast, but no scenery as it was very misty and wet. Finally we got to Barnstaple, but found that the usual road to go to the warehouse, which is way out on the moor, was closed. There was a road closed sign, but no indications of other ways to get there. We tried and tried, but we knew the warehouse closed at 1pm,and we couldn't find it - so many twisty little roads to little farms - in the end we had to give up !
The next day, we tried again - this time the road to Barnstaple was clear - but when we headed to the warehouse, all the roads seemed to be closed - finally,we found a veterinary place where there was a light on, so Richard went in to ask the way (he didn't take Zola in, for fear it would delay things) -and finally he got directions, though the woman said we must just ignore the road closed sign on the way, as it seemed to be abandoned there some time ago ! And we did it - we got to the warehouse a few minutes before 1pm this time -and came home by a tiny little road the warehouse manager told us about (almost just a farm track !) and then safely back via Barnstaple, with 4 radicchio heads !
It would have been a pretty drive round the moor if the sun had been out - the trees and ferns by the roads were very colourful, but it was grey, and we were to tired to notice it much.
The things we do for Zola !!! but he was really good on my lap all the time, both days.

After lunch I had a short and I noticed several Little Egrets but I got to the other side of the island there were hundreds of Brent Geese all having migrated from Siberia. I started my walk back and when I got to the pond near the cafe it was full of ducks, coots, moorhens and Teale. It was nice to do a bit of shopping in Leigh but it was very misty. Meanwhile Jacky is still asleep and I wish I could sleep like that!

Hello Natrah - today the weather has been very grey, dark, and chilly -we did have a quick look at the sea, but it wasn't a day for walking on the breakwater- however, I had a lovely stroke with my mum by the fire this evening. She has been rather more wobbly for a few days, but she is still probably getting used to her former headache injections again. She has never dropped me yet !

Zola I think our posts may have crossed on Friday. I read about your drive to get your radicchio and I hope you read about the Brent Geese that I saw. Anyway I hope your mum feels better soon maybe it's the injections.
Sue is Dickie hibernating yet because Jacky certainly is now? I have set up the fridge so when the temperature in Jacky's room goes down to 13 degrees Celsius or 12 degrees Celsius I will be able to put her in. Meanwhile after lunch at the Cliffs Pavilion I went to a craft fair and bought another tortoise ornament for her to meet when she wakes up plus some amethyst.

Looks like she is. Hasn’t moved for a few days now.
We’re waiting for the garage temperature to drop a little more before moving her in there.
