Hello Natrah - I'm glad you have been enjoying your stewarding - you deserve a few mince pies, for sure!
Richard had a go sorting out the shower problem, but he just got short bursts of very hot water - however, we managed to get to speak the plumber, who is coming tomorrow afternoon. He said on the phone that he just replaced the motor exactly as before, so he couldn't understand it. It may be that we need a new motor - I think that one is pretty old, actually - but hopefully it will be fixed soon - I'm getting really fed up with the saga! Still, it will be great eventually.Lots of love from Angie and Zola xxxxxxxxx

Hello Natrah in answer to your question re Sherman I would think he will be residing in his shed more now. Apart from a week ago when it was very cold the temperature has gone up again so it wouldn’t surprise me if he has ventured out before we got hit with all this rain.
We have some flooding in the county & Billing Aquadrome has been evacuated yet again.
Nothing like as bad as the floods in Wales we saw on the news though. Terrible for the people affected.
@The_Four_Toed_Edward asked about wildlife in winter. I reckon it’s pretty much the same. I don’t see many rabbits any more sadly thanks to Myxomatosis & probably flooding in the fields. No wonder foxes are seen more in urban areas.
We have a trailcam set up during the dark hours & have only seen a fox once in several months. Still got some hedgehogs visiting despite the weather but once it’s colder they should hibernate
Dickies temperature in the garage has gone back up to 10 degrees. We hope it’s not affecting her hibernation.

That is sad about the rabbits. Myxomatosis is a new diseace here and for now it is rare. But there are other diseases affecting rabbits. Recently there has been tularemia (rabbit fever) and coccidiosis.

Dear Natrah and everyone - Hooray ! ! ! our shower is fixed. The plumber has just been, and it turns out that there was some dust in the filters, blocking them. He said it was probably something to do with the oldish water tank in the loft, but that it should be fine now. That's a relief - we were afraid we would have to get a new shower fitted, which would be quite expensive - as well as all the work he has done - we don't know how much that will cost yet !
Zola doesn't like his routines messed about, so he will be happy it's over, I know - and, to be honest, we don't like it either.
I have made an appointment for Zola to have his beak trimmed in a couple of weeks - it does need doing, and we can combine it with pre- Christmas radicchio collecting, as they are roughly in the same direction.
The vet -Zola's Uncle Henry - knows him well, and is always amazed at how strong he is ! I must take a photo of Zola on the breakwater to show him how much exercise he gets.
On Wednesday I have to go for my neck injections at Tavistock hospital - and I shall be very grateful to get them. Then no more until after Christmas.
We did have some flooding - fields turning into lakes, and so on, but when we went out this morning things looked pretty much as usual - and a rough but beautifully coloured sea.
I hope all is well with everyone - lots of love from Zola and me xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I think it should be done twice a year, but for various reasons we haven't always got round to it -really it's just when we think it needs it - yearly, at least.
Angie
I am thinking whether Edward should get his beak trimmed soon. Sometimes I get a feeling from threads on this forum that your tortoise shouldn't need a beak trim if you are doing everything right. That makes me feel guilty 😅

Good morning everyone!

I just want to say that Jacky and Daisy have never had their beaks trimmed but Jacky had her nails cut before hibernation and she was a good girl. I'm glad that Angie, Richard, Zola, Sue, Pete, Dickie and George are okay. I have been thinking about Sue and family when I see Northampton Station under water. I hope Sherman's okay.

Will write later

I cut Edwards nails when he came to me, since they were growing a little crooked on his back legs. He did not enjoy it. He might be due another cut sometime in the future, since they are still growing crooked.

We live just outside the town but go into Northampton a lot for shopping & appointments. Had to take my car in for a service & mot yesterday ready for today. Due to lots of road closures due to flooding & general road repairs, the traffic was horrendous coupled with people needing to do Xmas shopping. We had to go on a detour to get to town because our usual route through another village is all flooded as are many others. I’m so glad I don’t live near the water.
I don’t think Dickie has had her beak trimmed, certainly not since I’ve known her & her claws maybe only occasionally. Maybe some species are more prone to needing this than others.

Yes maybe some species need it more than others but as Jacky was doing a handstand when the Olympic Gymnastics were on the TV maybe that's how one of her nails split🤣.

His beak isn't very long, but has grown a bit since last year, and I don't want to risk it chipping or splitting at all - he only has a very small amount removed - his nails are very short after all the breakwater walking, so no problem with them. The vet gives him a quick check over too (he has a tortoise of his own called Grandma). I could probably do the beak trim myself, but I don't want Zola to blame or resent me about anything!

Yeah, totally get not wanting to do it yourself. I am afraid of hurting him or accidentally chipping the beak if I tried to cut it on my own. Overall I suspect he would hate it.

Good evening everyone!

Sue I'm glad you're okay and I hope your car service was okay. Looks like we're going to get a deluge tonight. Mum and nana used to tell me about the great floods of 1953 and how they went to the cliffs and saw that Canvey Island was completely under water. The weather was lovely but cold when I was out shopping and teaching. It was so nice this morning when I woke up to a couple of squirrels running along the fence. Edward my local wildlife consists of bats, foxes, squirrels, badgers, butterflies, moths and the birds. The birds consists of robins, wrens, Great ****, Blue **** and in the nature reserves Long-tailed ****, Coal **** etc 🤣🤣🤣 (there will be a lot of asterisks here)!

Anyway Angie I'm pleased you've got your shower working Essex Beds left a message on my phone to arrange a delivery of my new bed so I shall phone them tomorrow. I hope you're okay after your injections and I hope you're not affected by the weather because it seems that you have a weather warning as well. I would leave it to the vet to trim Zola's beak. When will he be having it done?

Goodnight everyone

Natrah, hope the deluge doesn’t cause damage or flooding. Seems to be a regular thing now.
Car passed mot but had some work done on track rod boot as it had perished. Last year had to have the same done on the other side. I blame all the potholes that can’t be avoided. Took 2hrs there & back as traffic was terrible again. At least the road through the village next to us has reopened so we didn’t have to divert again.
Pete saw on Facebook that Sherman was out today having his photo taken with some volunteers from a local business. He is always popular!
Stay safe those affected by the next storm 🙏🏻 the worst of it will miss us it’s heading for The Netherlands

Dear Natrah - this is just to say that I had my neck injections this afternoon - the pain in my head eased off almost at once, but I'm very tired, and am going to bed in a few minutes - I will write more tomorrow. It has been a really stressful time recently, but things are improving.
Lots of love to you, Jacky and Angel Daisy, and to all our forum friends from Angie and Zola xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Good evening everyone!

Angie I hope you had a good night's sleep and am feeling much better today. Well Sue how is your heating and Angie how is your shower? My bed arrived today but I had to cancel all the pupils to morning was spent stripping the old bed and clearing my bedroom in preparation for the arrival of the bed. Whilst clearing away I had to dusting that I hadn't done for weeks and when I moved the bedside table the dust was pretty phenomenal🤣!

When I cleared the drawers of the old bed I made use of Jacky's clean enclosure and put my clothes in there. This made more room and stopped me from tripping up. I also found one of my copper pictures that I made when I was a child and you can see it below. In the seventies when we lived in Malaysia mum and her friends used to run copper picture making classes and us children used were taught as well. I have another copper picture of a goosegirl in my art case but it is covered by bed clothes at the moment.

Edward have you had any more snow because it has been very cold here but at least it was sunny today. Yesterday was miserable with rain but at least we had no flooding. Zola when do you have your beak trimmed and Sue is Dickie still hibernating?

Goodnight everyone

Good evening again everyone!

I forgot to say that when the old bed was removed I was not all that pleased to find more broken pieces. I only had this bed for three years and in that I managed to put my knee through the upholstery now long after I got it, develop pains in my pelvis, shoulder and spine, discover a few breaks (drawers and foot) and now more breaks. I paid a lot of money for this but I suppose it's better than a hip replacement!

Natrah
