Good evening everyone,

I think I should tell you all about last night. As you know I haven't been feeling well and when you have sinus trouble you can have vivid dreams! Bearing it has been Halloween I have been music and listening to CDs suitable for the occasion including Danse Macabre (Jonathan Creek music) by Saint-Saens and Liszt's Mephisto Waltz. I have been listening to my Chilling Ghost Stories CD read by Andrew Sachs before bedtime 🤣🤣🤣🤣. One of the stories is 'The Room In The Tower' by E F Benson and one point Andrew Sachs describes seeing a 'thing' at the end of the bed which is 'not of this earth'🤣. Anyway I knew it was a dream and I thought about turning but I decided to get and use the toilet if anything to get rid of the image at the bottom of the bed.

Goodnight everyone

Talk about camouflage! Zola is that a lighthouse in the background?

Natrah

PS: Did you have sun today it's been miserable here?
The tall thing in the background is part of what is called Barrel Rock -a post fixed to a large barrel fixed to a rock, which is a sort of directional aid for boats wanting to enter the channel - I think it is very old.
It was quite sunny for a while, yesterday, so Richard was able to get some new photos of Zola. I love the way his shell glows in the sunlight - and ,as I'm sure I've said before, we never polish it - it is smooth and shiny from stroking, that's all.

It snowed here a bit this morning, but it won't stay on the ground.Fairly strong winds here today and yesterday. Is it still gloomy over there Natrah? Zola, does your winter diet wary from your summer diet?

Good evening everyone!

I got as far as having lunch at the Cliffs Pavilion today and it was a sparkling winter's day. There was a Xmas Craft Fair on but no tortoise ornaments like last time. I remembered Daisy at 3.20 pm and then I stroked her ornament at 3.30 pm. I hope you're all okay and that Zola enjoyed his stroke and walk.

Goodnight everyone

Not really - the dandelion leaves are much better in the summer - the winter ones are thin and not as juicy, but Zola will eat them, all the same, and he doesn't get things like clover in winter, because there isn't any, but we tend to stick to much the same shop-bought things all year round. I have started giving him some Hikari Mulberific Delite every day, which he loves. It is little pellets which you soak - he gets these pellets laid on his morning breakfast cucumber slices, which Richard hand feeds him - that way we can be sure he eats it all, rather than mixing it in his other food. It's the first time I've really found a supplement he likes, and I do think he could do with that bit of extra fibre.

Edward has the Agrobs Herbs pellets, they are really healthy for him at least on paper (he has to have a low protein diet), but he really doesn't like them. I have to roll it up in lettuce or kale (which he likes) and this way get him to eat some pellets. Also, I give Edward calcium powder in the winter. He has really been munching on cuttle bone since I got the UVB tube installed.

I think Edward doesn't like the winter carrots as much as fresh summer carrots (he gets carrot peels once in a while). I just really hope our grocery stores would sell stuff like dandelion greens. This is my first whole winter with Edward and I am really worried about variety.

PS. You would have to wear safety cloves to hand feed Edward cucumber!

Zola used to love cuttle bone, and would carve it into fancy shapes with his beak - then he just went off it, and hasn't had any for years, although I leave it available always. I wish we could get dandelion greens in shops here, too,but I've never seen them - ours are from our garden.

The ones outside are already turning to mush with the ground freezing and melting, not to mention when we get snow.

Edward is probably exited about his cuttlebone since he has a UVB tube now (I don't trust that he has enough vitamin D stored from the Finnish summer to last him). The UVB must be really working with his calcium digestion since he is eating huge chunks. I have taken some "cuttle bone update" photos to another thread:

Zola has a beautiful shell which doesn't to be polished just stroked and rubbed. I thought of Daisy at 3.20 pm and 3.30 pm I rubbed her ornament. I'm still bunged up and I keep thinking of her ornament as her shell. I've been giving Jacky a little rub but I am aware that I probably shouldn't do this.

Good evening again everyone!

I can't say today wasn't sad and I am still bunged up but I miss my little girl and I can't believe it two years. I hope in some way she could feel me rubbing her shell and that she's enjoying dandelions and strawberries.

Good evening again,

Just come back from visiting another forum and replied to a couple of friends wondering whether Jacky remembers Daisy or whether she remembers what and I have said that tortoises have good memories Two years on and I am still noticing the behaviour in Jacky that suggests she misses Daisy and I also think that when Daisy couldn't hibernate with Jacky she missed Jacky.

Good morning Sue,

I'm a bit concerned about you because you haven't got any heating but you've probably got snow. Are you okay?

Yes we’re ok thanks. The engineer has been here for over 2 hours think he’s sorted out the problem just testing it all out. Seems to be a scale blockage in the pipe work.
Yes we had snow here but it’s melting. The garage finally got down to the proper temperature for Dickie 5 degrees!
How’s Jacky doing? How are you doing?
I got this alert but again I didn’t get the most recent ones other than Daisy’s thread. Oh well 🥹

There is snow here too. I woke up to a couple of centimeters yesterday and it has only been snowing more ever since. Had to pick up some salad mix for Edward today. We will see whether the snow will be permanent this time. The pond is still frozen, but the ice is now covered with snow.

Good evening everyone!

Sue I'm pleased you now have heat. We don't have snow here and I don't think Zola has either. My pupils have passed their exams! Yay! And Jacky is now in her fridge.

Sweet dreams Jacky and Dickie

Goodnight everyone
