Good morning everyone!

Angie that's very good news about your cataracts but look after yourself after each operation. It'll be lovely to have it all done by Xmas. Zola would have been thinking about you whilst he was in the car I hope you don't mind me advising you to make sure that he's out of sight. I think Jacky missed both myself and Daisy whilst she was with my friend but otherwise she enjoyed walking around the garden and getting at the vegetables. Hello Natrah - Zola has a special travelling box - it was made specially by a lady living Sheepwash,a nearby village ! It is woven from definitely non-toxic wicker (we made sure of that) and is square, with a flat hinged lid which we can fasten down, and lined with towels. It looks like a boring picnic basket, especially with a jacket or something lying on it, and I don't think anyone would expect it to have a tortoise in it ! Zola is very calm there - he has had it for 20 years or more, and has never tried to damage it, or to get out. If I am in the car, he expects to sit on my lap, but if I'm not there, just Richard, he is fine in his basket.
I am very pleased about the eye op - the people testing me were really nice, and I was also given some leaflets which were very clear about what would happen. I may not have to wear contact lenses afterwards, but it depends how much my vision will improve once it is all over.

Good evening everyone!

Angie I can picture that whicker box! Jacky travels quite well in the trolley when she goes to the vets and she travelled quite well in the pet carrier when we went to and fro from Jenny's. I know we're getting another heatwave but Sue I was wondering how Dickie's eating is?

I've decided to book Jacky in for a pre-hibernation checkup and I will phone the vet tomorrow. She is eating but not as much as before and she was active but mainly due to having a soak. Infact she was so active after the soak that it didn't look like her arthritis was bothering her! I also want to ask how long she should hibernate for if she has arthritis.

Edward's Servant are you having a heatwave in Finland how hot does it get there and how cold does it get in winter? I bet Zola saw the sea today. I enjoyed lunch at the Cliffs Pavilion and I treated myself to Coffee and Walnut Cake.

Dear Natrah -it's your brother's loss,not yours, if he can't find time to see you !
Zola has been for his walk today, and met lots of nice people. We chose a wicker box for him because tthe air can get in - I will get Richard to take a photo of it - he has lots of room.

Despite the warmer weather she isn’t eating much & some days nothing at all. When she does eat it’s when one of us holds the food up to her mouth to try to get her going. She does still have a wander round the garden & she is having her baths regularly so it must be the pre hibernation mode starting early. It was the same last August but this year it’s a couple of weeks earlier.
She needs her claws trimming so she will have a check up before hibernating.
Pete said the smaller tortoises at the sanctuary are the same so that’s reassuring that it’s not just us. The only one not affected is Sherman who is as active as ever!

Thankyou for reassuring me Sue. I have another issue in that I can't find my keys so I am using the spare keys so I'll have to let the landlord know.

I have been told that I am going to see the lady that pokes tortoises next Wednesday and I want to say that I will not tolerate any nonsense. Anyhow Natrah's keys were found on the window ledge by a friend of the noisy neighbour and they have now been handed back. Natrah wants to assure you all that she not got Alzheimer's like her dad. She just trying to do too many things at once and is recovering from sinusitis!

Zola had his walk on the breakwater today, and a couple with a very young baby came towards him. The baby was being held in a forward-facing position, so as they approached, Richard held Zola up so he could see the baby face to face. He said that the baby gave a really wonderful smile when it saw Zola - he found it quite moving, the way they seemed to recognise each other !

p.s. I forgot to say our buddleia is attracting butterflies now, although the flowers are not very big yet - I can't see what the butterflies are very well, because it's difficult to get close,and my eyes are not great - of course, the eye ops should sort that by next year !

Dear Natrah -Zola met a little girl on the breakwater today - her name was Aurora, and she has a baby tortoise called Bessie (who was at home, of course) He had a very long walk today, and a paddle, so he was very tired when he came home, and he appreciated his stroke.
It has been 28 degrees today here - I don't like it when it is really hot like this -although I can remember wandering round Greece many years ago, when it was much hotter than this, and it didn't bother me at all !

The heatwave is over here in Finland. The start of July was cooler than usual, but starting mid month we had 25 consecutive days with temps over 25 c (77 F), of which 20 days had temps over 30 c (86 F). The last time it was this hot for that many consecutive days was back in 1972!The month was also sunnier than usual.

Even though my last lectures were back in the end of May, I had one course that didn't end until the end of August. Now I am on holiday from all university responsibilities until the start of September.

As some of you might have read on COLD DARK ROOM I had my first ever colonoscopy (I am young to be having one). It was also the first time I was sedated, since I got two wisdom teeth pulled out without sedation, which is common practice here. Well, they found nothing which is good of course, but in terms of diagnosis it feels like things aren't really moving along.

This week I am doing a deep clean of my apartment before the semester starts and on the weekend we are going to our summer cottage. My mum will take care of Edward during my trip.

It's been very hot here and Natrah says that my thermostat read 32.8 degrees Celsius at 9.45 am! Anyway Edward I hope your mum is okay could it be a hernia. Zola I have been reading about your walks and I'm you've made another tortoise friend. Natrah's hoping that I can meet some children at the vets again.

Anyway this is what happened this morning both of us enjoyed breakfast in this weather and then Natrah went to meet her friends for coffee. Whilst she was out I got to work in the bathroom . I went towards my friend the bathroom scales before turning and charging straight at the useless plant food bottle to go and clean behind the toilet with the toilet brush. I then went into reverse in order to see my friend the mop but this bucket was in the way so I gave it a good shove. I tried to make it back to the water tray before Natrah arrived home but this involved charging through the food bowl. Sapphire @Cathie G I hope you're reading this.

The colonoscopy was done to diagnose what is causing my anemia and high body temperature. They were looking for any bleeds and such.
