The weather has been very mixed here - very windy most of the time, and a mixture of heavy rain and bright sunshine. We have had very little snow, which is good. The birds get lots of food - unfortunately, the starlings often force their way in - they drive all the goldfinches and assorted t*ts out - we have a very handsome bullfinch, who does stand up to them, though. And our robin is around, but keeping a low profile. With any luck, the starlings will go fairly soon, back to Russia.
I'm not sure how much my injections are helping,as my headaches are fairly bad a lot of the time, but I have two more months to go, so maybe things will improve.
I am so glad about your neighbours actually going, Natrah - I'm sure the tension and anxiety they caused must have affected your health.
By the way, Zola didn't have any special food for his half-birthday - we tend to keep his diet the same always, for fear of upsetting his tummy, but he got a card and even more attention than usual. Richard does all the cooking, so we had some nice roast beef, and Christmas pudding !
Love to all from Angie and Zola xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Good evening everyone!

I'm thinking of Angie and Richard today and hoping that their okay. It's been a miserable day here but I did go out to lunch at Rossi's:

Rossi's is a well known ice-cream company in Essex and they are rivals of Tomassi's.

Goodnight everyone

We have now acquired 2 budgies.
They belonged to an elderly lady with a learning disability who was my mum’s neighbour some years back before mum had to move into a care home. Mum was a very good friend & neighbour to her. She looked out for her & helped her with things she didn’t understand. They were well known in the local community always out & about together going round the local shops & eating in the cafe. It was rare to see one without the other. She even came with us when I took mum out & was included in birthdays, Xmas & my sisters wedding celebrations.
As the years passed & my mums needs changed due to dementia the tables turned & she became the one keeping an eye on my mum & letting me know if something was wrong. She would go in mums flat every day, sometimes twice to just sit with my mum for company & watch the antics of my mums budgies who were free flying round the living room. She used to copy mum & that’s when she got her first budgies.
For years we have been overseeing the care of the many birds she’s had as well as helping her socially & practically. It was pay back for her friendship & help with my mum. Eventually support was put in place by the LA & we then took over all the cleaning, feeding & welfare of the budgies whilst they continued to live with her. She was fiercely independent despite her difficulties & many hospital stays but she wouldn’t give up the birds so we continued looking after them for her in her home.
Last Sunday she had a bad fall. I didnt know until Tuesday that she was in hospital but couldn’t get to see her until Friday. When we visited her in hospital it was a bit of a shock to see her looking so bruised & weak with an obvious chest infection. She whispered to me that she wanted me to take the budgies home. I said I’d wait to see how long she would be in hospital for first as I could foresee difficulties with our cat George but reassured her we would take them home if her stay was to be a lengthy one. I asked her if she still wanted us to have the birds if anything were to happen to her & she nodded.
It was as if she knew her time was up as she died the next day.
We now have the birds here & she knows we will do our best to care for them & keep them safe. It’s only been a few hours but so far they don’t seem too bothered by George. He however is aware of them & all the twittering so is on high alert! They are in the dining room which is sort of open plan with the kitchen & lounge.
I expect Dickie will be waking up soon & she will also be in the lounge in her 5ft long run. I don’t think George will be very happy then having to share the space with all these other creatures, noisy ones at that.
Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly 🤞
We will miss her as we’ve known her for nearly 30years & we’ve been involved with her one way or another for at least 20 of those years. Hopefully she’s reunited with her much missed mum & my mum her trusted friend. 🤞

Dear Sue,

What a wonderful friend she was and I'm sorry to hear that she has slipped away. However she is now with your mum and they are probably watching you as you look after the budgies. What are their names? Do they have a large aviary?

I remember you telling us about this lady before and how you did her cleaning. It sounds like you were all looking after each other. It's nice that you were all sending Xmas and birthday cards. We had a neighbour that used to come for birthday teas but she was very deaf and we used to talk at the tops of our voices.

I actually started to type this reply at lunchtime before the first pupil arrived but I was unable to finish. Anyway I hope you're okay and I know you will be grieving for her and also for your mum. I still remember your father-in-law on another forum but anyway Dickie will have a surprise she wakes up.

Goodnight everyone

Natrah, Sleeping Beauty and Angel Daisy

PS: How is George getting on with them?

Oh heck!! I don’t want to be watched 😆
Their names are Peter & Lucy. They are in the same cage they were in as I haven’t had a chance to sort anything else out yet but I intend to get them something bigger. Unfortunately I haven’t got room for an aviary which would be the next best thing to flying free like my mums birds used to. When I eventually had my mums birds I had to contain them so I got them an indoor aviary which I kept for years just in case I “acquired” some more but eventually donated it to an animal sanctuary to free up space. Since then the space has been filled with other furniture so their cage has had to go on a cupboard in front of a large mirror. They chatter away looking at the mirror so I wonder if they think there are other budgies in another cage!
George is not impressed & I am having to reassure him he is still loved the most 😊

Good evening everyone!

Below is a picture of Chocobanana: Anyway the weather's been awful today alongwith my sinuses. Yes budgies love mirrors and we've have lots of them over the years. We also used to let them fly around the lounge and unfortunately a few of them escaped. In Malaysia we had a Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo who escaped flew around the houses and came back. He actually got on quite well with the cats and also the rabbit.

Goodnight

Natrah, Sleeping Beauty and Angel Daisy

PS: I'm going to have my ears cleared at the weekend and the drops I'm putting in are making me a bit light-headed. I have narrow ear canals and my sinus problem doesn't help.IMG20260203123547.jpg

Hope you get on ok Natrah with the ear cleaning. Your sinus issues must be a right pain especially in the winter.
The hearing in one of my ears has been a bit odd, it’s as if it’s blocked but I can hear myself chewing in that one ear. It’s been since Xmas when I had the cough so I’m wondering if I’ve damaged it in some way as I was coughing very forcefully. Thankfully it doesn’t hurt so I’m waiting to see if it goes away in due course.
Pete would love all those desserts you post pictures of!

Thankyou Sue.

I would make an appointment at your surgery about your ear or anyone that does ear clearing near you because that's one of the symptoms that I have had in the past

Dear Natrah and everyone - Zola went yesterday to Exmoor to get his new radicchio, and we had a good expedition on the whole - the landscape looks very different when there are hardly any leaves on the trees !
Then today we went to the cheese factory to get some Taw Valley Tasty Cheddar for me, as it is very difficult to find in shops (and more expensive) We saw lots of daffodil leaves by the roadside, but hardly any flowers yet - they will soon be out, though, and stunningly beautiful. We did see some large patches of snowdrops though, which were lovely.
How is your house now, Natrah? Have you met the new tenants ?
Love from Zola and Angie xxxxxxxxxx

Good evening everyone!

Angie I would love that cheese eventhough I am on statins. Just as well that factory isn't near. However what we do have is a jam factory in Tiptree that makes Wilkinson's jam. They also have a cafe there where we used to go after walking around the nature reserve. How is everyone? I am looking forward to my audiology appointment on Saturday knowing my hearing should be better. Angie how are your headaches? Sue what about your hearing and @Chefdenoel10 and @The_Four_Toed_Edward how are you two?

The new neighbours are very quiet but they buzzer has passed away. It was used day and night by the previous neighbours' visitors and it probably conked out when it couldn't believe it wasn't being used.

Goodnight everyone

It’s my right ear I can only describe it as tinny sounding. When i was young i used to get a lot of ear infections & I remember having an abscess in that ear & the pain was so bad. As an adult I also had shingles in that ear & I’ve been told the eardrum is scarred. I hear better from my left ear which I always use for the telephone. I doubt anything can be done but I’ll see how it goes.
Glad the new neighbours are quiet. Do you know where the troublesome ones moved to? Pity their neighbours.

Hello Natrah - I am on statins too, but a very low dose, and I was not aware that cheese was a bad thing with them- I don't think I have enough to be a problem, actually. I haven't been feeling very well - still a lot of headaches, but in different forms and parts of my head -I do get fed up of it all !
Next Thursday, we take Zola to see the vet for his beak trim and check-up. I think he is pretty healthy, but I like to be sure. He weighs just a bit over a kilo -1kilo 21gms last time, but it fluctuates. He has weighed around that for a long time. it is a good thing that he is small-ish, as I wouldn't be able to pick him up very well, otherwise. He is also a nice rounded cuddly shape !
I hope your hearing apt. goes well - I had my hearing tested some months ago, and definitely have hearing loss - I have some aids, but have a lot of trouble getting them into place, as my hands are shaky.I know I should try harder, but I have been too preoccupied with other stuff.

Good evening everyone!

Angie I wonder if the rain has been making your headaches worse. The weather's been awful here and yesterday I was drenched however despite the rain and my blocked ears I could hear robin singing in the trees on the other side of the road when I was waiting for the bus. It was 7.10 pm and I suppose the noise of the traffic was keeping him awake.

I hope Zola's appointment goes well and I making a note of the date. My ears were apparently quite blocked and I explained that I had been putting silicone earplugs in my ears because of the neighbours but thankfully I no longer have to do this. Sue how is your hearing? Are you seeing anyone about your ear?

Below is a picture of the Chicken Korma that I made today.

Goodnight everyone

PS: I am going to check Jacky's enclosure soon.

PPS: I have a new pupil starting on Wednesday IMG20260207181244.jpg

I’ll put up with my ear for now it doesn’t seem quite so weird at the moment!
I’ve just checked on Dickie & shes moved to the door. It’s too late to do anything tonight but Pete will have to put her indoor enclosure together tomorrow so she can go in there. I want to give her a bath as shes been in hibernation for 4 months. It’s about the time she normally stirs.

Madam is full of beans (or something!). Last night I removed her from her hibernation box & put her temporarily in George’s cat carrier in the diningroom thinking she could stay there overnight to acclimatise. No chance! Within a short time I could hear her scratching about trying to get out.
When Pete got home after his usual Saturday night out with his friends I told him she was awake & he decided to weigh her. We were pleased to see she had already done a large wee & had hardly lost any weight, only a few oz. He was planning to go to the animal sanctuary Sunday so he decided he had better put her enclosure together now at 1am. Another hour later Dickie was in it. The lamps are to be set up on Sunday.
I could hear her bashing about when i was in bed & she had rearranged just about everything by morning, lying across her water bath when I came down stairs.Poor George probably didn’t get too much sleep! Today she has had a good long soak & a wander in the house. Now she’s back in her enclosure to snooze hopefully.
Need to make a quick trip to get her some food although she’s not interested in her favourite peach at the moment, more interested in reorganising her tidied up enclosure.
Roll on Spring so she can go out in the garden which is where she wants to go as she headed for the back door when she was wandering.

Good evening everyone and hello Dickie!

Jacky will follow Dickie at some point but meanwhile I need to sort her enclosure out. I'm just trying to imagine your household with Dickie, George and the budgies. What are the budgies called? Are they settling in? Make sure your ear is okay Sue.

I enjoyed listening to the Blue ****, Great **** and Robins today (I can imagine all the asterisks🤣🤣🤣🤣). Anyway it was spring-like today and I did enjoy my lunch at the Cliffs Pavilion however they didn't have scones so I had Danish pastry. Angie I know I was told to watch my cholesterol intake with statins but do you ever have any cake or dessert with your medication. I still believe that there is a familial trait in my family because both mum and dad were on statins and according to Google this is more common in Asian families.

Goodnight everyone

No, Natrah - Richard and I have been on low dose statins for years - he has his before breakfast and I have mine at night (no special reason) But I spoke to a doctor on the phone recently, and she increased my dose as from next week. I think a great many people have them here in the UK, actually.

It’s been a hectic day what with sorting out Dickie, the birds & trying to do my usual jobs. Noisy is how I would describe it! George bless him was trying to catch up with his sleep most of the day. Dickie seems to have settled down now she has her lamps but she’s still banging about in her bed area & managed to knock the divider down which landed on her!
The birds, Peter & Lucy, seem very happy & love all the household noises like the kettle, the hoover & the TV. I’ve been playing aviary bird sounds for them on my iPad & they love it, watching the screen & joining in. They are a bit messy but that’s normal. I spend a lot of my time clearing up after everyone. They don’t know their names & were kept in a small kitchen in their previous home as J didn’t like the noise so it’s quite a change for them.
My ear is the least of my concerns right now but if it doesn’t improve I’ll go & see the nurse. How are your ears now Natrah?
