Good evening everyone!

Sue I think Dickie is doing housework like Jacky and Daisy and I'm afraid it will take her some time to settle. Jacky and Daisy use to try and turn and face the light when I put them to bed. I remember putting Daisy to bed when I was in my last flat at 8 pm when I got home and then I had to listen to twenty minutes of shoving 🤣!

Edward, Zola and Sapphire (@Cathie G and @The_Four_Toed_Edward ) do you three do this sort of thing? I know Zola does the housework in his conservatory. I hope everyone's okay. We have a hundred flood warnings in the UK and in the US I know Cathie is freezing and I hope Edward's Servant is okay.

Goodnight everyone

Just wondering how old Dickie, Sherman, Zola, Edward and Sapphire are now?

Sapphire is probably going on 24. I will have had him 19 years in May.🤗The vet says older but he looked 4 or 5 to me when I got him. She didn't see him then.

And yes Sapphire rearanges his furniture. He has a purpose for it too. If he can he'll place it in a way that enables him to climb like a monkey. That's why Russians are called an escape artist. I've watched him walk up a wall.

All I know is Sherman is in his twenties they think & Dickie is in her mid 50’s. She hasn’t ripped anything up today!
One of the budgies pings the bars of the cage, I call him ping ping. The other ones party trick is to lift & drop the water bowl so that pings on the bars as well. Water spilling out of course. I just need a drummer & we could have a budgie band. They can both sing!

I have Zola's European Certificate in front of me (because he was imported from the Netherlands) and he was hatched in 2000, but it doesn't give a specific date. The date of issue of his permit says 1st August 2000,and we consider his birthday as being 8th July, like mine.
So he is 25 now - 26 in July.

We have now acquired 2 budgies.
They belonged to an elderly lady with a learning disability who was my mum’s neighbour some years back before mum had to move into a care home. Mum was a very good friend & neighbour to her. She looked out for her & helped her with things she didn’t understand. They were well known in the local community always out & about together going round the local shops & eating in the cafe. It was rare to see one without the other. She even came with us when I took mum out & was included in birthdays, Xmas & my sisters wedding celebrations.
As the years passed & my mums needs changed due to dementia the tables turned & she became the one keeping an eye on my mum & letting me know if something was wrong. She would go in mums flat every day, sometimes twice to just sit with my mum for company & watch the antics of my mums budgies who were free flying round the living room. She used to copy mum & that’s when she got her first budgies.
For years we have been overseeing the care of the many birds she’s had as well as helping her socially & practically. It was pay back for her friendship & help with my mum. Eventually support was put in place by the LA & we then took over all the cleaning, feeding & welfare of the budgies whilst they continued to live with her. She was fiercely independent despite her difficulties & many hospital stays but she wouldn’t give up the birds so we continued looking after them for her in her home.
Last Sunday she had a bad fall. I didnt know until Tuesday that she was in hospital but couldn’t get to see her until Friday. When we visited her in hospital it was a bit of a shock to see her looking so bruised & weak with an obvious chest infection. She whispered to me that she wanted me to take the budgies home. I said I’d wait to see how long she would be in hospital for first as I could foresee difficulties with our cat George but reassured her we would take them home if her stay was to be a lengthy one. I asked her if she still wanted us to have the birds if anything were to happen to her & she nodded.
It was as if she knew her time was up as she died the next day.
We now have the birds here & she knows we will do our best to care for them & keep them safe. It’s only been a few hours but so far they don’t seem too bothered by George. He however is aware of them & all the twittering so is on high alert! They are in the dining room which is sort of open plan with the kitchen & lounge.
I expect Dickie will be waking up soon & she will also be in the lounge in her 5ft long run. I don’t think George will be very happy then having to share the space with all these other creatures, noisy ones at that.
Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly 🤞
We will miss her as we’ve known her for nearly 30years & we’ve been involved with her one way or another for at least 20 of those years. Hopefully she’s reunited with her much missed mum & my mum her trusted friend. 🤞
Such a beautiful friendship!❤️

Good evening everyone and also @Moozillion!

Jacky is old enough to be everyone's grandmother. @Moozillion what's your little one's name? What type of tortoise is he/she and how old are they?

We've had funny weather here including sunshine and showers and then a deluge. Sue's home sounds very musical but I have to ask whether George still wakes her up at 4am.

Goodnight everyone

Hello dear Natrah -please think of me tomorrow at 10.45 -as I shall be seeing my Uncle Henry the vet then. He will probably want to trim my beak a bit, which I don't like him doing, but he is very quick, and it doesn't really hurt. I will have to remind my mum to have some cucumber slices ready for me afterwards, as the trimming machine makes my mouth feel dry and powdery. I am always very brave, of course, and I know I shall get extra strokes and cuddles afterwards.
Love to everyone from Zola xxxxxxxxxx

Dear Zola,

Jacky and I shall think of you then. Try and be still and it will be over quickly. Whatever you do don't shove the vet like Daisy did or walk away like Jacky. Think of that lovely cucumber.

I think that Dickie, the budgies and I should all come together as a band and perform a concert for Pete and Sue.

George
Good morning everyone!

I don't see why Dickie and the budgies should be the only ones making a noise so I have decided to keep my dawn chorus going. I have no idea why Sue can't be more appreciative!

Thants nice George! I can’t think what you will play though unless you’re another vocalist? Dickie could be the missing drummer although she’s not consistent with the rhythm but will fit into the band with all her bashing about. George Dickie & the PingPings 😂

Zola I hope your vet appointment went well and that you are feeling better from the beak trim. Did you get your cucumber? I bet you're sitting by the fire with Angie. Also did you see the sea? Anyway sit back and let George, Dickie and the Ping Pings entertain you

Enjoy

Hello Natrah - I did have some cucumber after seeing Uncle Henry - however, he didn't cut off much of my beak - he wants me to go back in 6 months to do a bit more - he does try not to upset me, and I don't get too fierce with him - not like I could if I really tried!. I have been going to see him for many years now, and he knows what to expect. Then this afternoon I sat by the fire with my mum for a long time - she had a very bad night and a bad headache most of the day, but I think she finds her cuddles with me very helpful.
One of the desk staff at the vet's was very interested in me, and my dad let her stroke me -she had no idea that tortoises can be cuddly and friendly - she said "You've made my day !" - which is something lots and lots of people have said over the years, on meeting me.
It is very cold and damp today, and I hope it will be better tomorrow, but I don't think it will be, and there is a possibility of snow !
Lots of love to you and everyone from Zola xxxxxxxxx
p. s. We saw a rainbow on the way, so we said hello to Daisy, Gary and Bonus xxxxxxxxx

Good afternoon everyone!

It's miserable here but anyway I'm glad your appointment went well Zola. I just wanted to say that Jacky is good at percussion as well. I remember Daisy was unable to hibernate in my last flat and Jacky was emerging from hibernation. One day I decided to put Jacky in Daisy's enclosure and all went well until she decided to start moving about. I had to hurry up with lunch because Jacky was causing mayhem and I had to get her outside and allow Daisy and the enclosure to recover!

Natrah
