These are frequently used for sterilization. I run them on my pond as a sterilizer to kill bacteria present and help prevent any disease spread. You do have to have it sized correctly as you need a bit more exposure to the UVC to sterilize as opposed to just destroying free algae.

Good to know, Mark! Thanks for the info! [emoji2][emoji173]️

Hi Bea, anything new today? Praying for more good news[emoji173]️[emoji217]
Actually, things are looking quite good- she's very active and they're anticipating she'll be home by the end of the week! I think we caught it much earlier this time because we were more alert about what to look for.
Thank you for asking!!!! :):<3:

I’m going to add a UV sterilizer to her tank. Once she’s been home and settled, she’ll get shifted from her 20 gal tank to a 40 gal breeder tank! [emoji2]
I think she’ll enjoy the bigger tank!

Bea, when you start the new tank set it up using a bucketful of water from the current tank. Run the tank for 3-4 weeks before you move Jacques over. That gives the filtration system and good bacteria time to settle.

THanks, Linda! I was figuring on getting it started for a while- this gives me an easy, workable timeline! :):<3:

I got an interesting phone call this morning. :)
The tech at the veterinary hospital called and said Dr. Rich wanted to let me know that Jacques is active, floating and swimming well and looks good. He's going to check with his friends at the vet school to see what additional Ideas they might have to prevent her from getting recurrent infections.
What's particularly interesting about this, is that Dr. Rich (who OWNS the practice ) is the doc who treated Jacques when she was there with her pneumonia a couple of months ago.
BUT the doc Jacques saw last Friday was the PARTNER, Dr. Pence. So I'm guessing that when Dr. Rich came in this morning and saw Jacques back again, he inquired about what was going on. It kind of sounds like he's taken over her treatment since he's giving instructions on her care. That's fine with me! It just reinforces that he has a particular interest in her healthy recovery. :)

I heard from the vet’s office today. Jacques is doing very well, but will need injections every 3 days for 1-2 weeks. Due to my work and hubby’s work, and the distance to the vet, bringing her home and having a 3-hr drive twice a week in the middle of the day would be a challenge. We discussed cost, and for them to keep her in a sort of “rehab” status (basically boarding there to get her shots) is not bad at all. So she’ll be “boarding” there for another 1-2 weeks. Due to their slow metabolisms, the doc is not really looking for her blood counts to have changed much in just 1 week, so she’ll get a blood count on the 20th.

It’s all looking very good, and very manageable![emoji2][emoji106]
