I hope this will cheer you up - first of Zola's 25th birthday photos from Babbacombe, Torquay - more to come. You will see the red soil on the beach below - that's our typical Devon Red soil - when you see fields ploughed and that colour, it is very striking !

and behind him is the Big Wheel, which we went on during a previous visit, but it was closed today -Zola seemed to enjoy it -few tortoises have ever been up in the sky like him, I'm sure.

Good evening everyone!
I have seen a washing machine like mine and whilst I'm going to look online I am giving the one that I've seen quite a bit of thought because it has lasted for twelve years. Angie and Sue do you unsure any of your appliances with Domestic and General? I am going to give them a call because they say that they will replace a washing machine if it can't be repaired so I am unlikely to get this but I think it's a matter of time before it goes again.

Yes I’ve got mine & other things covered by Domestic & General. I have changed my washing machine & tumbledryer in the past rather than keep getting them repaired simply because of the inconvenience of them breaking down so often. I’ve had a drum change before on a previous washing machine. I don’t know at what point they decide to call it a day but I decided to get a new one anyway as it was getting on in years & breaking down too often. With the new one it will be under warranty for parts & labour although D&G will suggest accidental damage cover.

Dear Sue,
I've only just found out myself via Facebook. I hope no one was hurt or killed. The airport is about three miles away on the otherside of Southend. I wonder what caused it and also I wonder how those switches were closed on that Air India plane because I don't think it was the pilot's fault.
It's been another hot day what with taking the washing to the launderette although I did have some lunch on the cliffs (see below). When I came home I found the same washing machine at Argos online but there was only £10 difference therefore I am weighing up the pros and cons because Argos advertised free recycling of the old machine but then other shop does repairs. Either way I am going to ring D & G in the week and cancel the engineer. I will also ask if they will pay for another machine but I don't think this is going to happen. In which case I stop the direct debit.
I also saw the Jersey Tiger Moths again:
Jacky has eaten very well today and she enjoyed basking and digging. How is Sherman's enclosure after all the bashing?

Beautiful moths. I’ve seen a few more butterflies recently which is good.
I hope you can get a good deal with the washing machine. It will give you more peace of mind if you get a new one. Must be expensive having to use the laundrette.
Pete isn’t aware of damage to Sherman’s shed & he did ask if they “water” Sherman which they do with a watering can! The other smaller tortoises get the usual soak.
There’s not much info on the news re the Southend plane crash. They are calling it a major incident though & I doubt anyone survived.
I am also following details of the causes of the Air India plane crash. I can’t imagine someone doing it on purpose. There’s so many questions still to answer.
Dickie ate well today too. She doesn’t stay out beyond 3pm at the moment & when you look in her house she’s buried herself under the straw!

Richard feeds the robin in our garden whenever he appears - we know he had babies, as he was taking extra mealworms away. For the first time today, the adult robin came as usual when he went out,-but today there was a little cheeping sound near his feet - and it was a baby robin, at last ! ! The adult robin comes to Richard's hand, of course, and maybe the babies will end up gathered round him, and even coming to his hand too. We sort of feel we have earned their trust after all our care - it has happened in the past, but not recently. There is more traffic and more buildings near our house in recent years, and I think they become more nervous then.
